For our honeymoon, we decided to volunteer at a Dog Rescue in Thailand. It’s so sad to hear and see the stories about how the rescue can’t even trust their workers and the Thai people to care for the animals.
They are in charge of over 600 animals, they provide medical help, neutering/spaying services, and room/board for these animals.
I’ve been to Asia, third world countries do not value dogs or cats as pets or treat them like family like we do here. They are treated like parasites and often get abused by tossing hot burning cooking oil on them.
I would like to see if anyone would want to donate old towels, collars, etc. Things that your furbaby has out grown or no longer needs. I’m going to lug as much stuff over there as I can.
our pets here certainly are lucky than those in Vietnam, China and Thailand.
I’m not sure where else to reach out to.

@bobsgirl2007: That’s an amazing thing to do! I would love to do something similar. It makes me sad how people treat animals. I do understand that not everyone feels they are “family” like many Western countries do but there is no need to abuse them. That is heartbreaking.
If I lived closer to you, I’d drop off a shitload of stuff for you. I’m in Canada though 🙁

@bobsgirl2007: that’s fantastic. I’d love to help. Where are you located?

@bobsgirl2007: this is so amazing. I have two rescue dogs from Turks and Caicos Islands. it’s so sad to see how these dogs are treated by locals. Luckily they have a rescue organization to help. If you want, google or Facebook Potcake Place K-9 Rescue. when are you going? And do you know what they need the most? I could possibly ship some stuff to you but my wedding is in 2 weeks and its crunch time….but after things settle for me, I would love to help you out. I know the helpless feeling and I’ve donated money and plenty of items to Potcake Place.

Thanks ladies for the support, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be flagged or flamed. It’s been rough on weddingbee lately!
@MrsPanda99 I’m in MD. I’ll travel MD/VA/DC area.
It breaks my heart when I travel overseas and see animals are treated like garbage. Then I go home and tell my dogs (as if they understand) that dogs in Asia are not as lucky as you two spoiled brats. 🙂
I am very excited to make some difference in the world.
I’m hoping to volunteer at a Elephant rescue in Thailand because they are terribly exploited there but many orgs PRETEND to be rescues when they are money making machines. Oy, tricky tricksters. So I had to back out.
Does anyone have connections to a petstore? I tried emailing big chains and small stores about donating things that didn’t sell. Petsmart said no.
The newsletter I just got from the rescue was pleading for people to ask for expired meds for the dogs for mange but I don’t know if the vets will “throw them away” to me.

@kja00 Congrats on rescuing your two dogs! You are a hero to me! I would love to bring a dog back from Thailand. Hubs said no way, two is enough in our home. I keep hinting at a 3rd rescue.

@HappyInLove11: I’m in MD. I’ll travel MD/VA/DC area to pick up. I’m going to convince my parents and in laws it’s time to upgrade their towels and get them to donate their old ones.
@KJA00: I’m leaving in after Xmas. So no real hurry.
From the newsletter
“If you’re coming to Samui and you wish to bring a donation: Old towels and bed linen and sheets for the puppies
and the cats, OLD toys for the puppies, powdered puppy milk and flea collars for dogs. We can always
use these things. In serious cases of mange (scabies) – especially with puppies – ADVOCATE has proved extremely
effective. Unfortunately it costs a fortune! If your vet has got expired Advocate and is willing to give it
away for free or cheaply, we would be so glad to get it! For some dogs only Advocate can heal mange.”
They have an amazon wish list I think I read somewhere on their site.
Because of your donations, we can still neuter at least six
animals every day. In the last 14 years, over 18,000 dogs
and cats have been neutered and countless vaccinations
and treatments have been carried out.
