Hi bees!

I just got told that our venue has been double booked and we got the boot.  Not fun.  I was wondering if any Oregon brides had suggestions for a Hood River venue that isn't outrageously expensive?  We are wanting to have the ceremony and reception in the same place and getting married outside is important to us.

Hey Heirloom, responding late here, but I'm really sorry that happened to you.  I'm another PDXer getting married in the Hood River area, the weekend before you.

We checked out Cathedral Ridge, Mt. Hood Winery, Gorge Crest, Hood River Lavender, and a few other places before settling on Mt. Hood Organic Farms.  I 2nd the above poster's website suggestions, that's how I found most of the ones we visited.  Feel free to contact me if you want some more candid opinions on these places :)

I am looking at venues now and am so torn between a more commerical place like Gorge Crest and a smaller more intimate place like Mt. Hood Organic Farms or a private residence. I've looked at several and the smaller more intimate options seem to come without any amenties like rentals, etc. and you need to bring that all in.  Anyone have any advice on venues?  I really wanted the great Gorge views even more than the mountain views but there seems to be very limited selection of places with Gorge views.

Sweetdebs, we also checked out the View Point Inn and the recently re-opened Columbia Gorge Hotel, which both have rentals included.  Others w/ great Gorge appeal would be the Vista House, Multnomah Falls Lodge, and Thunder Island, but I'm not sure about what's included with those.  Good luck w/ your search!

This is such a tough decision - we've looked at Gorge Crest, Lakecliff B&B, Mt. Hood Organic Gardens and a private residence...all nice but just depends on rentals.  If you are doing the Organic Gardens are you just brining everything in - tent, dance floor, etc?  My only concern on all places with no real indoor option is rain - even with a tent - I was in Hood River for a Labor Day weekend wedding and it rained and thank goodness they had the indoor option of a barn b/c it was cold, rainy and windy.

good news - we rescheduled our wedding at the same venue!  we're getting married at the crag rat hut over memorial day weekend.  it's way affordable and the venue rental costs go directly to the crag rats, a nonprofit organization.  as well, tables, chairs, plates and silverware are all included!  i would definitely recommend, even though they double-booked us.  turns out that the woman who was handling the wedding booking quit, so a husband/wife team started taking reservations.  the wife took one and the husband took ours afterwards, which was unfortunate, but understandable.  if you have any questions about the crag rat hut, let me know!

Re: the Crag Rat Hut vs. Cloud Cap confusion... The Crag Rat Hut is in Pine Grove, just 5 miles south of Hood River on Highway 35. My dad's a Crag Rat (one of the oldest search and rescue groups in the nation) and we spend every Thanksgiving at the Crag Rat Hut. Super great spot with double mountain views!

Cloud Cap is the Crag Rat's base for searches/operations, and it's up at 6000' elevation on Mt. Hood. Spent many a family holiday there as well, and it's a gorgeous place!

I'm just starting to look at local venues in the area and am curious about other's experiences with Gorge wedding sites. Although I think that warrants its own board post... ;)
