Hey Hokies - stay inside, stay safe! I was just getting changed in my office to head over to the Memorial hall gym when the alarm sounded - guess no gym for me today!
Lock your doors, stay inside your rooms, and if you are off-campus, better just stay off campus today (at least for the next few hours).
I know Derring is completely locked up, and I am sure the rest of the buildings are too.
OMG! They just flashed this on the new. Sad! but they got the guy in the performing arts building.

Thank goodness it's a reading day and classes aren't in session.
@tksjewelry: Tech just Tweeted that the shooter's location is unknown. Maybe Fox News got an unconfirmed report?
Stay safe fellow Hokies! Ugh my senior year was 2007, why does this happen so much to VT :(
Until you get notification from VT Alerts, assume the POI is still at large.....better to be extra safe!
The Collegiate Times says the shooter is still at large and more shots have been heard. :(

KatyElle - you are right - it is Hokies, not "Hookies" - I was not paying attention when I wrote that. You would think I would know how to spell it since it is written everywhere around town!!!! Thank you for alerting me to that!
oh no! please stay inside and stay safe! I have friends who are still in school there that were there in '07, how awful to go through this twice. Some people are just terrible human beings.
My heart goes out to all of you hokies...:( I still remember exactly where I was when I heard about the first shooting. I don't go to VA Tech, but know lots of people who did. I feel for the Tech community.
Sidenote: it's so crazy to me that I find out about news on social media these days rather than a more traditional news source. I first read about this on facebook!

Two people dead?! Is this true? What the heck is going on in this world?
@Aubergold: Yes. Two people shot. One was a police officer who stopped the car on campus.

@hisgoosiegirl: i know there is a delay in getting info when all ihave is google and internet news to go by but i have yet to find one report that says this person has been caught. evey single one says the suspect is still on the loose.
I've heard from him. He's locked in an office with others and is emailing me from his smart phone.

Some really dumb people in Twitter too - saying they should shut down the school because it's 'full of murderers' and they'd never let their child go there. I want to say really? What town of 30,000 people do you know that has less than two violent crimes in 4 years? Vtech is a great school with great people. SMH.

Nevermind - looks like the collegiate times is saying the person who surrendered was not a suspect. Ugh! I was hoping he was caught and this would be over!

@katie169 - really, when you think about it, it is not that crazy...and this thread is a great example. Social network sites (like FB and Wedding Bee) do not need to fact-check their sources before posting information. However, "News organizations" (like Fox, MSN, and CNN) and supposed to fact-check before publishing.
I don't know where hisgoosiegirl is hearing that the shooter has been caught, but everything official coming from VT right now says to still stay inside....while I HOPE everyone is following that advice....can you imagine what woud happen if a local news network gave the "all clear" before it WAS all clear and someone else got hurt because of incorrect information? (God forbid....)
Anyways...this is why news is slower than social network.....

I hate waiting and thinking about the two families who wont have their loved ones coming home tonight.

Agreed Rock Hugger. I was originially following this on the news and Tech webpage, but it was too slow, so i came here hoping for more info and then found the link to collegiate times twitter from here.
