@Adeline4:  If you ae congested, fill a bowl or pot with very hot water, lean over the water, cover your head with a towel and inhale the steam. You can also take a hot steamy shower.

@Adeline4:  I normally can’t take meds, so I have a couple of ideas. First, can you pump enough to get through the night and put your husband on baby duty?

Second, order in whatever food feels good. I personally recommend spicy pad thai because the slimy noodles and easy to digest and the spice causes my nose to run, but anything with carbs (and preferably spice) work.

Third, take an orange juice tea (half a cup of hot water, half a cup of cold orange juice, half a shot of whiskey). If that sounds gross, you can subsitute club soda for a the hot water and/or vodka for whiskey. Wine will work in a pinch. One or two should put you out. You will sleep for awhile and feel much better and a little alcohol shouldn’t be a problem by the next time you nurse.

Best of luck!

I also recommend the neti pot and rub Vicks on your throat and sinus areas (putting it on the bottom of your feet helps too…I have no idea why but it does!). I have had so many colds in the last year. I think I had 4 while I was pregnant and I’ve had one cold since my baby was born at the end of January. It really sucks when you can’t take the good meds like Nyquil!

My LO has been in daycare for over a month and we keep getting cold after cold. I recommend stocking up on lemon + honey + hot water and generally drinking a ton of liquids (including coconut water). I also do one Emergen-C pack a day; I bought the Immune+ but you can do the regular one too. I drink at least one small bottle of OJ a day. Keep nice and toasty (including hot showers) and use a humidifier (cold mist since you have a baby in the house). Good luck! I’ve kicked a couple of colds so far and it does seem to hit me lighter every round.

I join with PP and recommend a neti pot! NOTHING has ever brought so much relief than the act of physically washing all the nastiness clogging up your nose/sinuses out with warm, salty water. It’s gross but better out than in!!
