So, I'm roughing out my reception menu and I want to run it by y'all and see what you think! We're doing a hors d'oeuvers reception and we need to keep it fairly "familiar" because neither of our families are adventurous eaters.

    Stationary:
Cheese & Olives – Brie, blue, sharp cheddar, havarti, fresh mozzarella - kalamata, mission, nicoise, amfissa, sahli
Crudites, Fruit & Nuts – cherry tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cucumbers, peppers - strawberries, raspberries, grapes, pineapple – almonds, cashews macadamias
    Caesar Salad
Appropriate dips, spreads, breads & crackers.
Mashed potato bar – shredded cheese, sour cream, bacon, green onions, caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms

    Passed:
    Mini crabcakes
    Cocktail meatballs
    Kebabs – chicken, veggie, beef
    Wontons
    Sliders

Cookies & milk shots – 30 minutes before the end of the reception

What do you think? What am I missing?

Wow, and now I'm hungry. lol.  I think that sounds great, you have stuff to appeal to all types, including some vegetarian options.  That mashed potato bar sounds awesome!

Sounds awesome! I love the idea of a mashed potato bar! FH and I LOVE potatoes but I don't think we have enough room in our venue to have something like that.

@littlemissmoo - The mashed potato bar actually doesn't take up much space at all since they only set out small bits of each topping at a time and constantly replenish it with fresh. You should totally ask about it at your venue!

@everyone - Thanks for the feedback ladies, it's very appreciated. Now I just need to figure out how much of everything we need!

OK, my opinion is this.  Forget the cheese and crackers and crudites.  With the money saved by not serving this, how about

    Stationery lox/cucumbers/mini bagels?

    Stationery deviled eggs

Stationery: Cheese cube on a stick w/cherry tomato/  you can make those up ahead if you're doing this yourself and not using a caterer

With $ saved, serve more kebabs.

I LOVE THE BAKED POTATO BAR.  SUPER IDEA.  What about additng some cottage cheese to the bar?

OK on the fruit, but make it part of dessert!

Skip wonton's.  It doesn't go with what else you're serving.

Cookies and milk shots are cute; but if you have booze, it doesn't mix well in the stomach is my thinking.  If you don't have liquor, go for it!  ADORABLE.

    Are you having cake/cupcakes?

I've been to weddings w/cheese and crackers and people are standing around trying to cut off a piece, and in the end a lot is wasted because they go for the other stuff.  Plus if you have an older crowd, they all have cholesterol issues.  I love pate and had it at our engagement party, but no one else wanted to eat it!!! I was eating it for a week!

Question:  Is this sit down?  Otherwise trying to eat a stuffed potato will be difficult.

This sounds like a great beginning of a wonderful reception.  I'd like to know your final decision after everyone's opinions are in!  Best of Luck.

I think this is a great menu! I am also having appetizers menu! We are also having teriyaki chicken wings, and mini sliders plus little tenderloin sandwiches. We love to snack in my family during a party and figured this fit us much better than a sit down menu. YUMMY MENU!

Sounds yummy, I would suggest you add maybe a meat station? I'm not a meat eater but I know folks who need meat to feel full.

I think you have a great variety for different types of eaters.  I would LOVE the cheese station :)  I also love the milk & cookie shots!
