fresh cut flowers?
a coffe table book about travel, photography, art, etc (if you know their tastes well enough)
speciality coffee beans, tea, or cheese?
What about a candle that is packaged nicely with pretty cocktail napkins? Or flowers already in a vase? Or a bottle of higher end sea salt with a salt pig?
A potted plant would be really nice, like an orchid or perhaps violets?
Not sure what your route home is like...but perhaps there is Target you could stop in for pretty houseware/candles/book/etc.

I'm going to a friend's house for dinner tonight and would like to take a hostess gift. The only thing I can think of doing is a potted plant of some sort (boring?!).
I'm trying to think of other ideas, but I can't figure it out.
She and her husband are watching their diet - so any sort of sweets or alcohol is out.
The other kicker is I don't have a lot of time to find it (maybe 30 minutes en route from work).
Please help with any ideas!!
Edit to add: I know she and her hubby really like Lara Bars - but I thought it cheesy to show up with some of those! Any cute ideas of how to package them?
