With 2 showers coming up soon I have a few q's for you bees.

If a BM, MOH or my mom is hosting a shower, do you get them a hostess gift in addition to attendant and parent gifts?  If so, what's a good idea/amount for the gift?

How do you do shower gifts if you're told his step-mom's best friend and sister are hosting, but you know his step-mom is involved and the one sending invites?  I don't know his step-mom's friend and sister all that well either.

And lastly, do you get hostess gifts for the BM's and MOH for throwing the bachelorette party?  Ideas?

My only shower will be hosted by my MOH and BMs, so I have no idea what the answer is to your question about your step-mom-based shower - it's not even something I'd considered! For the parties my MOH and BMs are coordinating (shower and bachelorette party), I'm planning on just including those hostess-related gifts in their overall wedding party gifts. I don't know whether this is appropriate, though, so hopefully others will chime in!

    Hi!

For the hostesses of my daughter's showers we picked up some ceramic tile squares from a salvage yard (four for a dollar).  We are going to but felt dots on the bottom, stencil the inital of each hostess on the top and spray them with clear varnish.  We're going to bundle them up in groups of four and tie them with a black ribbon for them to use as coasters.  For the shower her bridesmaids are giving, she is going to give them flip flops, we found some really cute printed ones at Trees and Trends for $1.50.

My shower is being hosted my the moms and my bridesmaids & MOH.  I made them a little makeup case for their purse and will fill it with B&BW hand sanitizer, a pretty nail file, lip gloss and a personalized mirror.  It's costing me about $25 per person, which is a LOT more than I wanted to spend.  The cases were the most expensive part of that and I made those myself.  I think you'd be able to buy pre-made ones for a lot cheaper than I made them for.

My sister gave us travel-size shower gel, lotion and loofah from Bath and Body Works as hostess gifts for her shower.  I think they were around $15.

I was also a BM for my SIL recently and she didn't do hostess gifts, but we got very generous gifts for the wedding itself.  So if you want to wrap it all up and just give one big gift, I think that's fine too!

As for the step-mom & friends shower, I would probably get something generic like a bottle of wine if they're wine drinkers, a GC to a coffee shop in your area with a fun set of mugs, or if you're tight on cash, a heartfelt Thank You card.  That's really what hostess gifts are about anyways.

We are date twins :) and my showers are coming up too.  I played off a cute idea that I think I read on here somewhere - "Hope the showers in your future are as nice as mine was today".  I went to marshalls and got a bunch of nice boxed soaps and bath gels and a few colorful umbrellas.  Each were $2.99-3.99.  I put them in brown lunch bags with a computer printed colored vintage print of an umbrella to make it pretty.  I'm on a serious budget so kept it simple.  As for who got them - I made some with umbrellas AND soaps for the hosts who were paying for and planning, and some with just soaps for the BM's and aunts that just helped bake, etc.  I just did nice thank you notes for my bachelorette.  Have fun with yours!

My goal in my hostess gifts were to get something thats practical.  I went to the Dollar Store and got little tote bags rather than gift bags.  I filled them with some organic fair trade lotion and soap from the natural foods store. (I can't stand cosmetics with all the fake chemicals and harsh scents!)  I also included a small umbrella from the Dollar Store and included a thank you note that said, "here are a few things in case of a shower and to use in your shower"

For the other showers that were given in my honor, I did the typical bottle of wine in a fancy bag.  One in particular I ended up purchasing little bottles of wine, the kind that come in a four pack and then little minature wine glasses from Peir One and put thank you charms on the steam.
