I’m going to have an outdoor winter ceremony, and I’m thinking about offering hot cocoa or cider to guests before the ceremony (they can take it outside with them- the ceremony will take 10-15 minutes). If you attended an outdoor winter wedding (assume that you’d be okay with that- we’re having a tiny wedding, and all of our guests are avid skiers & have appropriate clothing), would you get a glass of cocoa, cider, or neither? It will probably cost about $90 to add this option to our package. Do you think it’s worth it?

@cologirl: I’d choose hot cocoa if it was made with milk as the base, but if the base for the cocoa was water, then I would choose hot cider. Both sound delicious though. 🙂

@cologirl: I am biased as I love chocolate. Try some Mexican hot chocolate, its yummy! Anyhow, I think apple cider sounds very fitting for a wedding ceremony especially during the winter. Why not have two options?

@cologirl: Hot chocolate reminds me of skiing 🙂 That’s my vote, but only if they can get a GOOD cup of hot chocolate! 1/2 the time I get hot chocolate made by someone that doesn’t know what they’re doing, it’s watered down and gross.
Hot cider is a super close second place 🙂

I voted hot cider only because alot of hot chocolate is made with the packets & water. IF it was hot milk, cocoa, sugar & vanilla then I’d chose that in an instant!

@ScottishMrs: @chic_and_fabulous: Unfortunately, I fear that the $45/gallon hot chocolate is probably just water with hot cocoa packets. Getting married at a resort definitely has it’s drawbacks!
@candy11: I’m going to email and see if we can have both!

@cologirl: How many guests are you planning to have in your wedding? Maybe I can do a fast calculation for you. I have prepared the Mexican hot chocolate many times. It is not very expensive.

I personally would love the hot chocolate, but hot cider might be easier for everybody (vegetarians, lactose intolerant, etc). Depends on your crowd! – I think it’s definitely worth the extra $90 – it’s the details that people remember!

i love both, but i voted for hot chocolate only because i’ve been craving some lately, haha.

@cologirl: We actually did hot cider because it worked up to be a LOT cheaper than hot chocolate! Plus hot chocolate is one of those drinks that you can’t use the same cup for other things. Can you imagine going to drink coke or something when you have hot chocolate rings on your cup? gross! The hot cider was a HUGE hit and was gone by the end of the night 🙂
Plus the hot cider was a beautiful color and looked awesome in pictures!:

@cologirl: If you had asked me last week I would have voted hot chocolate. BUT! This past weekend we went to a pumpkin patch and my DH brought me some hot cider, I had forgotten how amazing that stuff was. It wasn’t to sweet or messy and tasted delicious!
I vote cider.

@cologirl: I don’t have pro pictures yet so that is the best I got! We also offered: root beer, pink lemonade, ice water, and two types of cider. Regular cinnamon cider and pumpkin spice!
We used three crockpots and heated the homemade cider in there, it added a really cool rustic (down to earth) feel 🙂
Two crocpots alone served about 70 people but everyone kept coming back for more! (these were smaller crockpots!)
we went to sams club for all ingredients!

I love both of those ideas! I picked cider, but truth is — I would love either. or both!

@cologirl: Ahh now that I’m reading that the hot chocolate is made with water, I want to change my vote to cider! Hot chocolate made with water is just gross. Cider is delicious and very wedding appropriate 🙂

I voted for hot cocoa, but would choose apple cider if it was made with water.
