So the other day I was hungry and scarfed down a caesar salad and a steak that was medium well. Totally forgot both are off limits to us preggos!!
I was freaking out that I damaged by Baby Sailor.
Has anyone else broken any food rules?
I also scarfed down like 3 hotdogs before I knew that they were considered off limits too :-/

I had one soft-serve ice cream, anda few slurps of an iced-cap. Ither than that, I was very strict.

after some family peer pressure i have had a bit of turkey deli meat i feel guilty…even though my doctor never specifically mentioned it.
had some softserve at jasons deli….
accidentally ate authentic tiramisu without realizing it had caffeine, eggs, and a bit of licquor. yikes.
dr is conservative and DID specifically say she prefers that people avoid caffeine in the first tri…or limit themselves to 2-3 oz of coffee max. can you imagine trying to order a 3 oz starbucks? haha. i did the no caff until sbout week 8 and then switched to one soda a day. not the best for me, i know, but i needed those precious 40mg of caffeine to function.
im trying not to feel too bad. my mom tells me all the time how the rules i am worrying about were not even on anyone’s radar when she had me.

@urchin: Why can’t we eat soft serve? Oh good lord.

I wasn’t aware that caesar salad was against the rules! I’ve definitely had those several times (I love getting Panera Bread’s caesar salads for lunch). Oops. Is it the dressing they use that is the issue?
Other than that, I can’t really think of much. I did break down and drink a coke zero a couple of times. And I did get soft serve ice cream once before I knew that was a problem. I’ve been trying to be careful and have followed the precautions my doctor gave to me. However, there may be other things out there that I was unaware of. I guess I need to be more careful!
Edit: Add hot dogs to my list. I’ve had Skyline Chili coney dogs several times in the past few months (just had one yesterday, actually). Grumble!

When I was pregnant I had soft serve quite a few times and no damage done… I also ate hot dogs/brats … again no harm no foul…

According to the list I was given, I haven’t broken any rules. My doctors say that red meat that is cooked medium is fine. I do drink soda everyday (just one), but the docs said it’s fine as well. They actually encourage it to keep headaches away. Why are hot dogs bad? I craved them for a while (and again, docs said it was fine), but I do eat them almost burned on the grill.

@travellingfool: Lysteria… freaking lysteria ruins all the best foods! I WANT A HOT DOG!!:) I had a milkshake from McDonald’s which I assume uses soft serve- I couldn’t resist!

these pregnancy do-not rules seem to be getting out of hand, i’m afraid by the time i have a baby i won’t be allowed to eat at all
when my mom was pregnant with me she ate whatever didn’t make her want to hurl and im perfectly fine
i think if you’re healthy and your pregnancy is normal, eat and do whatever in moderation (except the obvious alcohol smoking etc)
whats wrong with steak and soft serve icecream???

@Erika_Meep: Caesar salads arent against the rules, however salads that have been prepared salads that allowed to sit there have a risk or listeria. So if you make your own caser salad and clean the veggies properly you will be fine.
Towards the end of my pregnancy I just couldnt resist soft serve. I would also get hot dogs from five guys once in a while.

@travellingfool: Apparently there’s a risk for listeria. THe parts of the machine can’t be cleaned properly.
It’s VERY extremely minimal though. Never heard of a listeriosis outbreak from this…lol
a cooked hotdog should have no risk for listeria though I thought?

The only rule I really followed was no drinking alcohol. I didn’t eat sushi, either, but I never eat sushi, so that one never counts for me. 🙂
I’m a big believer of eating everything in moderation, and my doctor agrees. Which is good because I pretty much lived off of turkey sandwiches for the first 4 months of both pregnancies!

@bells: Ah. I see. That makes sense! Hopefully though Panera keeps their veggies pretty clean and fresh. I’ll probably stop getting those salads regardless now though. How sad. 🙁

not pregnant/ haven’t ever been pregnant. but why can’t you eat hot dogs? i’m devestated about this news. haha
and traditional ceasar dressing is made with raw egg yolks, which is why that is a no-no. but bottled dressings shouldn’t have that problem.

I do taste the batter when making cookies or a cake, but other than that I’m not willing to take the risk. It was a miracle to get pregnant and I didn’t want to risk losing her and now we are so close I can wait another 2 months.
