You do not have to pay anythign when you schedule a block. Well in MN you dont anyway.
I scheduled a block of rooms up to 15 to start. They received $16 off the normal price. However we only really have one option here in town. Depending on the amount of rooms that get booked through our wedding we might put $10 to each room as a little extra thank you.
But when booking a block you should not have to pay anything. You are giving them business by blocking.
On the note of two different hotels. It is an option. If you are blocking rooms and it doesn't cost you anything I don't see why that wouldn't work. Good Luck!

Hey Beees!
I am getting married in August, and am having lots of people coming in from out of town.
I was wondering how I would go about trying to get a discount at a hotel near our venue or in downtown Calgary.
I have heard of people reserving a block of rooms at a hotel, but do I have to pay for all of those rooms? Also, is there a way to ask for a discount?
Also, is it polite to try to get discounts at two hotels in different price ranges? One for the older guests who appreciate the comfort of a fancy hotel and one for the younger guests or those guests on a smaller budget?
Thanks Bees!
