it’s a few hours past when i normally go to sleep but ugh, i’m so annoyed!
we have many out of town guests attending our wedding, including from china. a lot of the guests from china don’t speak english, are eldery, and certainly do not drive. because of this, we spent a good month searching for a suitable hotel that was close to the venue and could accomodate all our guests together so the american guests could help the international ones navigate from place to place (they are all family members). anyway, point is, hotel selection was *very* important to us, and we signed a contract for 25 rooms a year prior to our april wedding.
when we got sent the contract, i noticed there was a handwritten ’15’ next to the typed ’25 rooms’ on the contract. i brought it up to the sales manager, and she assured me that it was nothing, just a code they use to start the block in their computer system. sure, i could go with that. about six months later, i wanted to set up the online reservation tool they provided, but saw that in their online portal i was only allocated 15 rooms. again, i contact the manager and ask about this – i need 25 rooms, not 15. she now told me that it was because they had two interconnected reservation systems, and that it was 15 on *this* system, but had our other 10 on the other system, but no worries, it wouldn’t impact any reservation process for the guests and we had 25 rooms as per the contract.
welps, i’m sure you can see where i’m going with this. a few international guests have called us asking about our block. it was full! but there were ony 15 rooms booked… not 25. after speaking to a very rude hotel rep about the issue, we found out even more bad news. all the rooms in the hotel were fully booked! so… now i don’t know what to do. our international guests need to stay at the same hotel, but its unrealistic to ask a large portion of those already booked to switch hotels just to ‘take care’ of their elderly relatives. i’m very ticked that i brought up the issue to the sales manager multiple times, only to be assured it was all fine. and its not!
i am calling the manager tomorrow, but i’m not sure if she’s working (she works different days each week). i’m not sure what she can do though, if indeed the hotel is fully booked. i mean, they’re not going to kick people out!

They might have some bigger/more expensive rooms they can give your guests for the same rate because of their mistake… When the sales rep said they were fully booked, maybe they’re just fully booked in a certain type of room.

Where is your wedding? Is it at that hotel that everyone is staying where the ceremony is???

OP, did you get the 25 rooms/”interconnected system” explanation in writing?
And as far as the contract, if 25 was not crossed out, I’m not sure they can argue the “contract said you get 15 rooms” argument.

Kazza: i will ask her today, but the rep said that all rooms of every type in that hotel is taken (it is in a city)
SoontobeMrsFisette: no, the ceremony and reception are at two different locations both not at the hotel
Apple_Blossom: luckily yes, both explanations were via email so its not official like the signed contract, but it is in writing. yes, 25 is not crossed out, but 15 is written next to it. i will try to argue it today, but if the hotel is really totally booked i’m not sure what to do 🙁 I mean, i can’t ask them to kick out other guests… ugh. idk what to do…

sugarcube: At least its in writing via email. Although its not signed that still counts. I’m not sure what they can do if the hotel is really booked though. Is your wedding soon? Can you do another hotel and provide a shuttle for the non drivers and have an American family member take care of herding people onto the shuttle?

sugarcube: I would definitely stand your ground. The hotel might be able to work something out with another hotel to move the other guests there so that your group can stay together. It’s their mistake, not yours. Good luck.

Back up plan would be rent a bus to pick up guests wherever they end up staying?

Ballet513: my wedding is in one month. yes, i am very lucky i have the conversation in writing (via email) about the 15 vs 25 rooms. that part just makes me even *more* mad – i had pointed it out to her and was assured multiple times it was okay. and its not! like you said, if it is fully booked, there isnt really anything to do. but i want to be compensated in some way for my ‘trouble’ of dealing with this (either via shuttle or whatever we decide) and a violation of contract!
MrsEmeraldLover: yeah, i’m not letting this one go. however, talking to the front desk rep yesterday night, he very rudely told me (and FI) repeatedly that the HOTEL WAS FULL SO THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO. “but we have a signed contract of 25 rooms” “SIR OUR HOTEL IS *FULLY BOOKED*”. very unproductive. and even worse, the second closest hotel to our ceremony/reception venue is about 20 minutes away! for a total of 45 minutes… ugh.
kittywolf13: yes, i will have to look into this today if we can’t working something out with the manager. i’m annoyed i have to add that to my to do list, though. and obviously, its not as ideal as i’d like it to be… so i’m still very ticked.
i cant tell if im being a bridezilla or not, but this really had made me quite angry.

You’re not being a bridezilla at all! Wedding or no wedding, this would make anyone frustrated and angry. I hope things work out for you. You should not have to be dealing this a month away from your wedding!
