We’re about to book a room block 9 months out. I think 10-11 months is a good time, especially if you want to have your pick of hotels.

This is a GREAT question… I’m trying to block mine 18 months prior due the wedding being on memorial day weekend and family coming from out of the country. Are these people gonna think I’m crazy?

We booked it as soon as we booked our venue, which was about 6-7 months before the wedding.

I would set up a hotel block as soon as you have confirmed your date and venue. There may be lots of brides getting married on the same day as you and even in your area. You want to ensure that there are rooms available for your guests!

At our hotel, we recommend the earlier, the better.  You typically can’t block more than a year out, but anytime after that is fine, especially if it is a busy weekend.

We blocked rooms about a 10 months ahead.  The hotel didn’t think that was too soon and it was plenty of time to secure enough rooms.  If you can, shop around a little — most hotels we talked to offered cheaper rooms in certain months based on events happening in the city, etc.

We’re getting married October 2010 and I blocked mine out about 2 weeks ago.  I know there’s a wedding the day after mine at my venue.  Not sure how many out of towners they will have but this hotel is the closest to the venue.  Just playing it safe.

I arranged the hotel block at the Marriott Downtown Philadelphia at the time of signing with the venue, which was 7 months before. Apparently there was a huge convention going on around that time so it was good that we got the block of rooms in time. I’m not from Philly, but speaking to a number of hotels made it seem like hotel availability fluctuates based on the number or size of convention(s) going on at that time, so I would block the rooms as soon as you can.
