- Wedding: September 2013
SOOOO….let me start by saying I live in a summer tourist spot and over the years the season has been extended through til Colombus Day weekend. So figuring out hotel arrangements was pretty high on my priority list. I also wanted something very local because I didn’t want to foot the bill for guest transportation. So one of the local hotels (literally 3 minute walk from reception and after party venues) agreed to block rooms for my wedding and waive their 2-night minimum for my wedding guests. Well, this hotel called me last week to tell me they are closing their doors. There are only 2 other options in the village and 1 more in the same town. One of the village hotels rooms start at $600/night. The other hotel only has 6 rooms available and even because of my situation they will not block out those 6 rooms because there needs to be a minimum of 10 to sign a contract with them. The same town hotel option is fully booked the weekend of my wedding…most of the other surrounding hotels have the same situation, not enough rooms or will not waive their 2-night minimum.
I’m glad this is happening 2 and a half months before the wedding and not 2 days before the wedding, but I’m going to start printing out my DIY invitations and I want to include an accommodations insert – is it alright to list nearby suggestions? How can I word that I don’t have a block of rooms, but suggest contacting these places. I think http://www.vrbo.com and http://www.airbnb.com are sites they should check out too for something affordable. Maybe I should just direct them to my wedding website and provide the information there?
Would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks bees!!
