Our room block is at the Hard Rock Hotel, Hotel 71 and the Palmer House Hilton. I used hotelplanner.com to get rates- and then contacted the hotels directly.
We are getting married at the Hard Rock and will also be using the Fairmont and Travelodge - Downtown as well. The room prices in the area ran from around $125-$240. I was looking at Memorial Day weekend too so it should be lower on other weekends. I used hotels.com and based it a lot on location i.e. proximity to ceremony/reception site, price and reviews, in that order. Hope that helps!
Thanks for all the details - it's always a huge help to hear what other people are doing :)
I'm not sure what your price range is, but the Drake and Hotel Sutton are both nice!
@baletrina - Well hello fellow Memorial Day Bride! I've just started looking for hotel rates and the lowest I've gotten so far is $199 for that weekend. Have you found anywhere less expensive? I'd love to figure out how low it's feasible to go...I don't want anyone spending an arm and a leg for my wedding.
Do not go to the Grand Plaza. It is cheap, a great location, and the hotel itself is pretty, but the staff is extremely rude and the rooms were kind of gross. We had a really terrible experience with them.
The InterContinental usually does pretty low room blocks. It has a great location, a Starbucks in the lobby, and they have a lot of weddings and wedding blocks there, which means it can be pretty chaotic on a Saturday, but they're really accommodating and the staff is always really friendly, rooms a nice, etc.
I typically stay at Hotel Sax. It's in a good location and is trendy, but comfortable. Good staff. Very clean. I love the asthetic. We book through priceline and get a low rate. The only drawback is there is a lounge or nightclub off of the lobby. We didnt hear anything, but usually get a higher floor. If you are right next to it, it might be an issue, but I can't say that for sure. It's also next to the House of Blues and they share a driveway so it can get crowded late at night. But, everywhere in Chicago has valet and parking is a B everywhere, so it wasnt any worse than anywhere else.
We recently stayed at the Downtown Marriott for a wedding. The wedding guest rate was $129/night, which really surprised us, but it was a huge wedding held in one of their ballrooms (400+ guests, almost all stayed at hotel).
The hotel itself was really nice, and the location was great.
Date Triplets!!!!
We decided to go with the Essence Suites for our room block. When I visited, the staff were nice, the rooms were large and clean and $116 per night plus tax. Rooms include a free buffet style breakfast as well.

Hey all! Any Chicago hotel recommendations for guests? I'm about to look into discounts/reserving a block of rooms...I'm leaning towards the River North, Gold Coast area...nothing super fancy, but not super cheap either :) Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
