I'm getting married on a Saturday so I did 20 rooms friday night and 20 rooms saturday night. I also did 5 rooms Wednesday and Thursday night for family members that are flying in from far locations and have expressed interest to stay a few days. My hotel was able to give me the same rate for all days.
I would think they would let you block rooms for any time you want....I did 2 nights for mine, and it wasn't a problem at all.
IIRC, we blocked out 2 nights (night before and night of) which guaranteed guests would get a room at the specified rate. The hotel's policy was that they'd honor the rate pre- and post- for 2 nights (or maybe it was three...I can't remember!), so if someone came earlier/stayed later, they *could* get the same rate. The hotel covered their a$$es by saying that there was no guarantee that rooms would be available "in your price category." But we had no problems. I never could *quite* figure out the whole room block thing, but my understanding is that it's better to take the fewest number of rooms/nights you think you can get away with so that you're not "on the hook" for too many rooms or nights.

For those of you who have a hotel room block for your guests, did the hotel only block out rooms for one night (the night of the wedding) or did they honor the rate for as long as the guest stays (lets say a friend comes into town a few days early and wants to book the hotel for 3 days).
I'm working this out with my hotel, but they have gone through some management changes...so everyone is saying different things now, but so far they have tried to be accommodating. We will seeee! :P
Thanks!!
