Our hotels didn’t tell us we needed a certain amount of rooms blocked or reserved in order to get a discount.  One even told his to just let us know that the wedding is happening and to tell our guests to mention our wedding and they will get the rate.  I want to say they took about 20% off in each case.  They normally will open up the rooms about a month before the event so that they can sell those rooms if no guests have booked them.

I think it was around 20%.  They didn’t actually give me the percentage, they just gave me what the rate would be.

Ours gave us a 10% discount. Wasn’t a great deal, but the hotel rooms were $105/night with the discount (a SpringHill suites hotel, brand new, good location) so I don’t think that was too bad. They would only let us reserve 20 rooms, and they released the block 1 month before the wedding. They did let people cancel right up until the wedding weekend with no charges, though, which I thought was awesome.

@fingerscrossed:  I called a few places.  Super 8 and Motel 6 would block XX rooms (I said 10) and would take off 25% if my wedding was mentioned.  Another place didn’t block any rooms, but would give 20% off any room (I guess they had a lot of rooms).  Another place rquired me to pay the first night of every room I blocked.  No thank you!

Our block is at a Courtyard Marriott. I believe the rooms are normally $169 + tax for that date.. our guests are getting them for $109 + tax. We were able to start by blocking 20 rooms, and we can increase it if it’s close to the date & there aren’t many rooms left. Courtyard has been great to work with!

We are considered just at the end of off-season for weddings.. peak season starts in May (in my area).
