I hate mail too, that's why I do a lot of online bill paying, so I don't get a paper bill in the mail. I try to shred my mail if I don't need it.
I put mail in the trash...seriously. I don't keep paper around. I dump mail in a paper bag and when it gets full I take it to work and shred it. I chose to stop receving paper versions of all the bills I could and pay them online, and anything else gets shredded. I used to keep cards but honestly never look at them later on down the road soooo those get trashed too after reading.
Yeah we need to have a shredding party soon! Its getting to be a mess and I hate it! There is mail and old copies of bills paid every where I look! I keep cards! I just have to, plus now I use some to scrapbook! We do online billing but i still like to get the bill in the mail just incase the computer crashes or something!
We bought a filing cabinet and created files for every type of mail (sorted by alphabet & date). This way when I go to look for something it is where it belongs. For some reason FI hates being organized he leaves mail everywhere. We have frequently ran into the problem of tearing the house apart looking for some important piece of mail. LOL So I try to pick the mail up and organize it as we go so we stay organized.
We have a cupboard in the kitchen (the "bill cupboard") where the bills, checkbook, pens, stamps, envelopes, mailing labels, etc. are. There all nicely organized but they're not out somewhere where anyone can see them. Plus, on the inside of the cupboard door I keep the phone #'s and important info for utility companies, mortgage company, bank, etc. along with other important info that needs to be handy :)
my husband deals with our mail, b/c i also hate it (unless it's fun mail, like a letter or card from someone. then he lets me open it). i have no idea what he does with it. junk mail is torn and thrown out. bills are online. before they were online i stuck them in a box in our guest room, until we get something to file it.
Our important mail goes on the fridge, bills go in the bill folder I have, sorted by catagory (gas, power, water, rates, etc) and date. Junk mail goes straight into the recycling bin.

I hate mail!! Theres bills, birthday cards, important mail, junk mail, and then theres mail that you just dont know what to do with so it just piles up and you run out of places to stick it! And then bills you pay you want the copy for yourself so that piles up too!! Where do you put your mail?!
