Wow! I really like it! Let me think about some ideas for you! ; )
I would do a big piece of art behind the couch. Something beachy since that's kind of your color scheme in that room. I'm a huge lover of family photos so I'd probably cover half the wall with wedding and family pics in the dining room :) that's just me though! Also, I think the guest bedroom would look really pretty with light green walls, but it looks awesome as is! Your mom did a good job with "her" room.
I think a green would look great in your mom's room and a grey would be great in the family room. And where did you find that family room couch??...I LOVE it!
I would paint the stair banisters white... I'm like you though, I can't even decide on color for my own new house! lol
@Lillindy - Thanks! It's from The Bay which is a Canadian company... I don't know what company made the couch though, sadly!
I agree w painting the bannisters white.
If it was me, I would go with a soft green in the guest room to pick up the green from the flowered bedding. The green would keep it soft and relaxing.
In the office, you have what looks like black/white toile roman shades...you could do any color with that and use black accents to tie in to that. I think a french blue (greyish blue) like the pillow you have would look great.
For the living room and dining area, it looks like that area is all open, a nice khaki color would look great there bc it would allow you to change it up with pillows and accents anytime you want.
I wouldn't really buy art work until you pick your paint colors. You have a great house and some color on the walls would make it awesome!!
@KLP and Derbybride - Lol. I won't be painting the banisters because it's a brand new house and we picked that stain :)
@Derbybride - good idea about the green in the guest room, and the blue in the office. Another idea I had for the office is yellow, but my FI isn't so into that! I also agree that a nice neutral through the whole main floor would be a good idea, thanks!!
@wifeywife - I love the beachy idea, since I am from the east coast and living with no ocean!!!
Your house looks great! I would suggest you head to some stores like bed bath beyond, kittles, kirklands, kohls, etc. they all have good selections of wall art. I never did that before my current place and i never had anything except my photographs on the wall. I didn't like the vibe bc it was too art gallery-y. We've had some great finds at those places!
I really like your couch. I think gray paint would look good in your living room...then again, I'm very partial to gray because a lot of our house is gray :)
Try Etsy for some wall art. You can find some really cool stuff on there and original paintings and whatnot. I prefer stuff like that as opposed to stuff you can get at major retail chain stores, because you end up seeing the same stuff over and over again.
it looks like to me that you have a nice blend of things going on - modern lines, but not contemporary. I'd pick a color that's warm but not too trendy - I'd go with a nice ochre/yellow color in the downstairs living area, and maybe do one or two focus walls with a color that you'd like to bring in. your woodwork would go really well with that color. You can bring in a lot of things with your accessories, too, since your furniture is pretty neutral.
I'd get a throw rug for your living room to delineate the space. I would do a grouping of smaller pieces of art / photography over your sofa. Mix it UP! And NOOOO don't paint the woodwork!
I recommend this photographer for pictures to put up in your living room and it might bring paint ideas if you find something you like. http://www.aliciabock.com/index2.php#/home/ I am using http://www.aliciabockgallery.com/collections/the-friday-outlet/products/viewfinder-art-print this and bought the set of four and am placing them over my sofa. I bought two frames so far and still need two more to complete it. I had to buy 14 x 14 frames on Amazon. I am very excited and may paint that wall as an accent later when I figure out a color. I hope this helps or gives you inspiration.
I know I am kinda late on this! But if you like all white walss just add some color in art.. A nice big painting behind the couch would be great.. pull some colors from the painting and buy some glass vases in the color or candles. Buy some tall floor vases or a colorful lamp!! oh and pillows.. lts on the couch!

I just wanted to share some more pictures of our new house! My parents came to visit (14 hour drive!) and worked their crafty/handy magic. My mom decorated the guest room (she calls it "her" room), and made roman shades for the entire house. We also painted a little table for her room. My dad installed our dishwasher, microwave hood fan, bbq, and also painted our master bedroom and bath (no pics yet). He also put up 2 light fixtures (dining room and master). I am so blessed!

Anyone have suggestions for art in the dining room and living room?? I am at a loss for what to put on the walls and they're so long and bare!! Also, wall colors. The builder just painted the whole house ivory! Kind of boring!
