Hi! Welcome! I am not doing the marriage prep at that church but we are doing it at our church. We paid a small fee and we get some back for the license once we complete the course. Our menoting has been totally worth it. We are so glad we did it and we are sad knowing that we are almost done. It's totally up to you though! I know one couple doing at second baptist and they love it! They look forward to it everytime.
Some counties don't charge the administrative fees. I think Harris County charges close to the max allowed, but it's only $11 or so. It also waives the 3 day requirement--you can get married the same day you get the license.
thanks iswimibikeirun - we are going to register or get the license in Fort Bend county. i don't know if they have any admin fees or not
Incidentally, the people I know who took the class were glad they did. Here's another hint, especially if you need to make changes to your insurance or other benefits for work: if you take your license back to be registered (rather than mailing it in), get a certified copy then. There's a good chance that you may not get the original back (after being recorded) within the 30 days to make benefits changes.
We did a class with our officiant (who didn't charge us) and did it with just the 2 of us.
Ft. Bend may be a bit cheaper than Harris County. Also, you can get the license in any county. Some people think certain counties have prettier licenses than others.
Hello Modern Cinderella,
Many of the brides that I have worked with mentioned that they have participated in the marriage prep courses and many of them liked the idea of going. It's just based on your individual needs.
No matter what, I think you should take it. My fiance and I loved the class we took. Granted we have been together for 5 years and there isn't much that we disagree on or haven't already talked about, but we did still learn a few things about each other! It is worth whatever amount of money you have to pay, in my opinion. I have told several people that have gotten engaged to take a class as well and have gotten great responses!

Hi Ladies,
Who here has or is going to take the marriageprep class at second baptist church in houston TX ( Ed Young's Church) ??? Was it worth the money or wasn't a total waste???
I saw this one description of the marriageprep class that got me to thinking about totally not taking it :
you will receive a certificate good for a free marriage license (a $72 value) in any county in the state of Texas (the new law was effective Sep. 1, 2008, under the Twogether in Texas initiative; nominal administration fees still apply in some counties).
SO with that in mind Y go & take that class if u are still going to have to be paying fees anyways!!!! ISn't it that u take the class get ur free marriage license so that U CAN SKIP ALL THE FEES IN THE BEGINING????
What do u girls think????
TIA Ladies,
Lu
