I actually just had a 3 point french bustle.  It held all night, suprisingly, it was heavy and I stepped on it more than once!

I don’t have any pictures yet, but my seamstress just attached three buttons in a row about half way up my skirt, and that was enough to hold the train up above the floor.  The dress kind of flows loosely at the sides where it’s not pinned down, but I guess there’s not a lot you can do to bring a wide train in as tight as the rest of the mermaid skirt at that level.

I am also doing a French bustle for my mermaid/trumpet. I’m not sure how many points the seamstress is making. There is some lace detail on the backside below my butt and the American bustle would have covered this.
