So this afternoon I couldn’t reach my husband for about 20 minutes and this is EXTREMELY rare for him. He is the type of person who answers his phone every.single.time. Like to the point where it’s annoying. He even answers if it’s a restricted number lol Anyway so I started to really worry thinking car accident, etc.. but then he finally called me and said his phone was charging in his car while he was working. He’s on it nonstop 99.9% of it is work related.
I’m the total opposite. I don’t give a crap about my phone and I only have a handful of people who text/call and they are never emergencies. I’m just not a phone person and I don’t feel like I’ll die without it. I’ve forgotten it at the house before and said, “oh who cares, I’ll live” when I realized, rather than turn around and go get it. I miss calls a lot because I’m blasting music in my car and it annoys my husband.
But it kind of bugs me that I’m known for not being reliable for answering my phone because if there’s ever an emergency, I’ll feel horrible if I miss a call. I admire my husband for being super reliable with answering. I certainly know who I’m calling if I ever get arrested or if I’m in an emergency situation!

@nontraditionalmiami: I’m somewhat both. During the workweek I’m awesome about answering both of my phones. I have both a personal and a work cell. If I don’t pick up immediately I’ll call back within a few minutes. They’re always on my person. Over the weekend though, I tend to slack. I’ll throw them in my purse and not hear them at a bar, or leave them charging in the bedroom all day while cleaning or lounging on a lazy Saturday and not see someone called for several hours.

I always have it with me and I’ll answer it at almost any time. I never answer restricted numbers but other than that I’m usually pretty on top of it! I text a lot with my husband and my sister. My husband, on the other hand, misses calls pretty often. He has a sales route in a mountain area 4 days a week and he goes in and out of reception. Once he gets home he almost always plugs it into the charger in our room and forgets about it for the rest of the evening! If a family member wants to reach him with their first try they usually call my phone because they know I’ll answer 🙂

Generally, it’s glued to me. But if I’m napping, or trying to be quiet, I silence it.

I’m sort of the same-during the week I keep it nearby. But I NEVER answer blocked or unknown numbers! And then on weekends, I’m likely to keep it in another room where I can’t hear it or see it. Also, at night during the week, I generally don’t answer because it just gets to a point where I need to unplug. I think we all do.

I hate the phone in general so me and my cell phone have a love/hate relationship going on.
I always answer it if it’s someone who’s number is in my phone. I almost never answer it if it isn’t.
I usually have it with me, just because it’s always in the same place in my purse and I don’t make calls enough to be leaving it around all the time lol
My family does know that I have a tendency to miss calls occasionally or forget to charge my phone, but that doesn’t happen too much.

@nontraditionalmiami: haha! I found my phone twin! My Fiance gets so upset if I leave the house to take the dog for a run or do errands without a phone. I have had two fall into the toilet and didn’t shed a single tear. My grandma pays my phone bill because she insisted I get one when I started driving at 16 and I told her I didn’t want to waste my money.
It can be very useful for an emergency and nice to know you have, but I am not a phone person. I don’t have a fancy one or take pictures and play games. Just not my thing.

I just got off a family plan (thank god!) and decided a prepay would work. Not really. Nope. Not at all. I have to drive to the mall to pay for the minutes (hello 1990s) and it is super inconvenient so I haven’t had a phone for about a week. …yeah. I didn’t realize it was such a bad idea/ it would not work out at all, so I will have to reassess the situation so that I at least always have a phone that is working… It is funny because I never really used it when I had unlimited minutes. In general I leave my phone home. I would rather actually listen when I talk to people instead of half listen when I am out and about- but I know not everyone feels that way, and I am super against driving while talking! So unsafe. I am just not a big phone person. I am getting better!

@Eva Peron: oh i actually have a smart phone but it’s because my husband insisted i get one. he wanted one and we’re on a shared plan and we were due for upgrades so he dragged me to verizon to pick one out.
they tried to show me all these phones and then told me i could get a free blackberry and i was like, ‘free? perfect i’ll take it” and my husband was shocked that i agreed to that phone without even really playing with the demo one. lol
but i have to admit that after a week, i didn’t like the blackberry at all. for some reason, the little sensor that you put your finger over to navigate never worked for me. then he insisted i go back and get the droid like him and i just said “fine whatever” and he went and got it for me. i have to admit it’s a cool phone and i like the camera part because i’m always taking pics of my animals but that’s it.
i log into facebook too in situations where i’m waiting like in a long grocery store line. but i just lurk. log in and log out in like 20 seconds. i dunno why i even do it i always end up logging off and thinking, “god everyone’s so lame”

@nontraditionalmiami: I have crackberry too ! ( except its old and it pales in comparison to the new snazzy Droid and stuff)
its was my brother phone before the I -phone craze ( he gave it to me when I accidently flushed my phone down the toilet getting ready to go to Christmas day dinner) . I don’t know how to BBM and I don’t do pics and I don’t have internet. But it makes for a great alarm clock! Its a razberry colorish. lol

@Eva Peron: lol yea you are definitely worse than me. i at least enjoy having a smart phone but i definitely don’t use it to its full potential. my husband is always asking me if i checked out this or that app and i’m like, ‘no, i don’t even know how to do apps”
searching for a cool ringtone was fun though, i like that part because i’m really into music.

Oh wow, I love this thread! I answer my phone all the time! I try really hard to ignore people so I can just spend time by myself… but I have to answer. I am so curious! Even restricted calls, I want to know who it is, what they want, and I’m scared they won’t leave a message. It’s ridiculous.
I think I’m like this because I get so annoyed with people who don’t answer their phone. Yea, it’s ok if you’re busy or whatever…. but people who you call them and they have NEVER answered the first time, second time, or anytime. My BIL is like this and it just irks me. Why have a cell phone if you don’t use it?! I think we both need to balance it out a little bit.

@kperry3: i think the reason why my husband answers every single call is because he’s a general contractor and all of his business is from referrals so to him, that call can be a potential client which means $$. so in situations like that, i understand.
and i always return calls when i miss them. it may not be within 5 minutes, but i’ll get back to you by the end of the day. and i check my voicemails once a week lol

I answer my phone most times. It’s usually within reach but it is almost all work. The only time I don’t answer is if I don’t know the number or if I am in a meeting. I will even answer while I am sleeping- I am the alarm person at work. SO has his close by most of the time, but there are times when he won’t answer it at all. When he is with me 🙂 his son, and he can’t really answer at work, but if I call or text that I need him he will sneak a call.

LOL!! totally funny. I HATE the phone too. So what I did was get all my friends and family used to texting and not calling. I haven’t answered my phone in…wow, I can’t even remember. But they know if they text, I’m on it. When my sis was going into labor…I got a She is in labor…CALL!! I love it so much because when people need me they think text…. so I never really get bothered. Also, If I call someone.. I usually get an answer everytime because they know if I’m calling, I’m not calling for the heck of it. I’m calling for a reason.
