@smrussell:  for the 3 in it will probably be closer to 5 inches when finished.  It takes from 20-40 carnations depending how big they are.  They will last at least a week if you use an oasis ball not sure how long with plain styrofoam.

I think mom2littledude told you well.  I just finished the pomanders for my daughters wedding and while we used silk roses, we used 3″ balls and once they were finished, they were between 5-6″.  I used approximately 40-44 roses on each one.  Good luck to you!

@smrussell: Im making pomanders as well and I bought my roses from Dollar Tree. Each Pomander uses about 15 roses and I used it on a 2 inch styrofoam ball. The look of the flowers look very real and they last forever! Ive seen some with real flowers and it didnt hold very long.

@smrussell:  I used 4 inch balls for mine and they are about 6-7 inches after adding the flowers.

This is a link to the poms that I made with 4″ styrofoam balls, hydrangeas, and ribbon:

My Poms Are Done!!!

I thought they were huge, so I took them apart and remade them with 3″ styrofoam balls.

I haven’t posted a picture the remade ones yet, but they are a much nicer size for what I needed them for. I am having them hung on the chairs along the aisle.
