I think it is so sweet and cute when people incorporate their first date or a mutual hobby into their reception. The only problem is that I can't think of anything to do!!! Our first date was dinner and a movie. We went to Chili's and then went to see Employee of the Month. Can anyone think of anything with this?? I can't.
The only real mutual hobby we have is disc golf, and he's definately more into it than I am. I am so stumped. Does anyone see anything I don't??
How did you incorporate your couple selves into the reception?
Give disc's as gifts, some places make tiny ones you could get your names on them with your wedding date. I swear a few months back someone mentioned this.
Have a popcorn bar (instead of a candy buffett) tons of online places you can order cheap batches of gourmet flavors! And then hang tags on them saying the flavor that look like movie tickets :-)
How about incorporating it into your favors? You can make individual bags of popcorn for each place setting, attach a note or tag explaining how your first date was dinner and a movie, so you want to pass it on, and attach a couple a gift certificate for one admission to the movies.
Who wouldn't enjoy a ticket to a movie? Everyone could use it, it's cost effective, and much better to enjoy than a box of candy-covered almonds. It's be unique and different, but personal to you.
we just (finally) decided to incorporate our interests as table names. our fab MOH is also a budding photographer, so we're going to invite her and other friends to participate in our favorite activities and she'll take pics, which will be the basis for our table names.
for yours, you could do movies as table names - perhaps movies you've seen together since then? Or, like Kristenrn, incorporate details from the first date (street names, theater name, movie name, popcorn, soda, candy, restaurant or dish). it could be a fun thing for people to figure out.
another thing we're doing is creating a set of fun facts that we'll have here and there, sharing info about us a couple - where/how we met, explanation of his silly nickname for me, a funny detail of our engagement - we'll print each on nice paper and incorporate into the decorations. it will be something fun for people to read while they're floating about or sitting at their tables. it's an unobtrusive way to add a little personal info/touch without creating a theme out of it.
