Lauren267:  It depends what you need done. I had my first fitting two months before and second (and final) fitting a month before. I needed the top taken out about two inches and the dress has a built-in corset so it was alittle more complicated. Bustling took the seamstress ten minutes. If you just need it hemmed or the straps taken up you can probably go a few weeks before.

I had my first fitting about two months before, my second fitting about a month before, and my final fitting two weeks before the wedding (: I had mine hemmed and taken in very slightly. My hem was really complicated though because the bottom was all scalloped lace.

I agree that it depends on how much you need done, and how many fittings you’ll need.  I really only had a hem done, and 1 fitting, so we did it about a month before.

Like other said, depends what you need. I need my dress hemmed and back in hand by Oct 7 and went in Sept 17. The seamstress said it would be ready by the 27th so there still some time if she needs to make last minute changes. I went to an independent seamstress, not through the bridal boutique.

I had my first fitting a month out and my final fitting was 8 days before. I only needed to have my dress shortned and add a bustle though. It really depends on wht you need done. I would call the person who is doing yours and see what they recomend. I found it doesn’t hurt to make your appointments early. I had a friend whose salon was so busy they stopped taking alteration apointments for like 3-4 months!

Lauren267:  I had my first fitting about 6 weeks beforehand, and they scheduled 3 at the time (every two weeks). I ended up going to the first one and mentioned I was trying to lose weight (I lost about 20 pounds befor ethe wedding). The seamstress asked me to come back a month in advance and to STOP trying to lose weight at that point. So that was a month before the wedding. I then went back about 2 weeks beforehand, everything fit perfectly, and I took it home!
