I am sorry, but lengthening the straps is not going to help your situation. You will need to let the seams out, in order for it to go over your bust. It should have at least a 5/8" seam allowance, so you could potentially let it out a 1/2" on each side. Your best bet would be to do that or just save yourself the headache and purchase yourself another one for $50.00 in the size that you are now. I am a seamstress and, if it were me, I would just purchase another one for that price. It really wouldn't be worth it to try to alter it yourself and a seamstress would probably charge you close to the $50.00.
Yeah the green color is on sale for 40 bucks right now... it would be better to just get another one.
Hey everybody, thanks for your feedback.
The next size up would be a 12, and the lowest those cost are $140. Plus, I really don't want to have to spend any more money when the bride was bending over backwards to have us not have to! If I can't make this dress work, I'll just have to tell my friend (BM) I'm wearing something else.
Could you let out the straps a little to make it comfortable and also wear something under it in a similar or contrasting color? I am rather busty and I have worn cami's under dresses like that frequently. Otherwise, I look like a porn star lol.

Hi everybody! My friend is getting married and didn't care what her bridesmaids wore, but one of the other 'maids really wanted us to match. Two of us already had the well known J. Crew Sophia in different colors, so the third (the one who cared that we match) is buying her own Sophia.

I tried my dress on yesterday and oh my goodness, it WILL not go over my bust. It was cleavage city when I wore it 2 years ago and I must have gained some weight since then. (Fortunately the rest still fits OK. I think it runs small in the bust.) See the strip around the waist? Yeah, it cuts my boobs in half. Quadraboob! Awesome.
Can anyone suggest a way I could alter this myself to help it fit? (The bride won't care how "professional" it looks and since this is a bridesmaid dress I probably won't wear again, I'm willing to have some fun and mess around with it.)
I thought the easiest might be to cut the straps and add silk ribbons that tie together on the shoulders (in a contrasting color like cream, my dress is apple green) so the whole bust could be lowered somewhat. In other words, I'd essentially be lengthening the straps. This would also make the V in front lower, but I could add a camisole or tack in some lace.
To you crafty ladies, does this make sense? Any tips for working with silk chiffon?
Thanks!
