Just out curiousity, how much did everyone pay for their wedding dresses? If you don't want to give an exact price please give an estimate!
oh geez, you're going to get ballparks from $100 to $6000
Can you give us an idea of what you're shooting for? Mine is a Maggie Sottero and I paid $400 for it
I don't really feel comfortable telling people how much my dress cost anymore (I did on another thread though)...some people just get the wrong idea! But I'll tell you this, mine cost more than $10K. It's by Oscar de La Renta.
I love that pic @ejs4y8!! How cute are you and your hubby?! :)
@chaotic bliss: I bought mine from a girl who unfortunately had her wedding called off. I paid $800 for a dress that retails about $2200... so I definitely got a great deal. :)
Mine was a david's Bridal dress - I paid under $300 for it.
Thanks ladies! If you don't feel confortable telling the price, I understand but I would like to know and estimate!
@ejs4y8 I love your dress, it's lovely!
@Babilu Gorgeous Dress!
@ddubzz Awesome! I love great deals!!
IA Snowflake: How was your experience with David's Bridal? My best friend got her dress from there! It was the perfect price and it was stunning!

My dress is a silk charmeuse bias cut sheath with pleating at the bust and waist by Elizabeth Fillmore. It's an old style from 2005 I think. As of May this year they were still selling it in stores for $3700. I found it (a little beaten up and in need of a lot of TLC--which will obv. up the cost) for $1000.
I paid $1,000 for mine (CND) and it is a Jasmine Bridal dress. I can't wait to wear it :)
mine was from Alfred Angelo. I LOVE it. it was 1200, but i got a 300. discount. However, my alterations will cost 500 bux which blows. so the final price is 1400. That's through their seamstress. They said if i want i can do it through someone else, but i'll have to pay to have it steamed, if i go through their person, they'll do that for free.. eh.. idk.. i'll prolly end up using their person.. boo!
@ Babilu: I feel you on shuddering at telling people the cost. You know what I think is kinda great about your dress (not that you would ever have/want to do this) but you could chop the dress and make it a cocktail dress as well. Sometimes with couture, I find that they have the transformative quality that other dresses don't. So your 10K purchase price may actually be less when you think about cost per wear. LOL! And I am totally blowing up your head today! Love that dress.
mine was $550. it's not a "wedding dress," it's just an ivory dress from a boutique.
mine is priscilla of boston and cost around $3,000.
@Babilu: don't give a second thought about what people think about how much you spent on your dress...its YOUR dress! Its gorgeous and you are going to love it forever!
So many people want to judge because they either think you spent way too much or way too little on your dress. And if they can't judge because it's what they thought it would be, they'll still find something to nitpick. People just like to nitpick. But you know what? We're the bride, we're the one that has to pay for it, we're the one that has to wear it, and so we can do what makes us happy.
I love the Oscar De LaRenta. I think if you feel fabulous (and you look fabulous) and you can afford it, then so be it. My is an Elizabeth Fillmore that I bought secondhand for $2000
@Babilu We are not here to bash you! That is your dress and you better work it! I agree with @Heather25, I would take that dress after the wedding and get it altered into a short sexy couture piece and let it work!
@bdelfin The dress is lovely!
I paid $1500 for my dress, with alterations costing around $400. I was pleased with the price because it was a pristine sample (seriously pristine) that retailed for about $3800. Spending way too much time on budget fashion sites has taught me that aesthetic is what really matters. If you know what "look" you want, you can get it at a price that is affordable for you. But of course, construction and skill matter, too, which is why you shouldn't feel bad about how much your Oscar cost, Babilu. That is such a beautiful, magical dress. Just know what matters more to you - look or construction. In the end, your happiness is what makes the dress beautiful becuase you're wearing it.
Not just at Babilu, though, everyone's dresses on this thread are gorgeous.
Mine was an Amsale for $3750, and people are right - you never can find a common ground (with sOME poeple anyhow...) it either cost too much or too little. Ive seen second hand store dresses be stunningly beautiful. Who cares?! find a dress ou love and buy it!
@EjS-you are beautiful! I love that cute pic!
Here's a pretty recent post about this, and it includes a poll!
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/how-much-was-your-wedding-dress-and-was-it-worth-it
Thanks ladies! That's why I love WeddingBee...people here are much classier!
I did think about transforming my dress into cocktail size after the wedding. FH is the one who feels bad...he says that I could just wear the dress again "in private" on our wedding aniversaries! lol...he's so cute! What's funny is that I didn't really feel bad about the amount I spent on the dress ($14,500), BUT...when they told me the price of the veil I almost PASSED OUT! I mean...a dress is a dress..but a veil is just tulle with some stuff on it...I was shocked! lol
My dress was around $1300-perfect price for me and I LOOVE it and can't wait to wear it.
EJS you look freaking CUTE!!!
$600....I think it retails for over $1000 but I was able to snag the sample!
Babilu: I'm green with envy! Your dress cost almost the budget for my entire wedding :oP
My dress was Paloma Blanca. It was a sample that cost me CDN$ 500 and then with alterations and cleaning the total cost came to CDN$760. After the wedding, I've shortened it and transformed it into a (semi-)cocktail dress (I've posted a photo even if it doesn't show up)...now I'm looking into ways to make it look even less bridal and more wearable...
My dress is a Sottero & Midgely and it costs $1250 CDN (Haven't bought it yet though)
Here's my dress! I spent $2500 on the dress. I got it at a trunk show with a 10% discount. Of course I wanted to spend less but I had to have it!
maggie sottero - it was $1100 at the store. Then I'm spending a few hundred on alterations on top of that too.
I got mine at a bridal store that was just about to go out of business...as in the day i was there WAS their last day in business.
Essence of Australia- pricetag = $1450.
I walked out with the dress, veil and shoes for $475 total. I threw them out an offer and she jumped on it. Can you say SOLD?
Thx ladies =]. Just keep to your budget, chaotic bliss! it's hard not to fall in love with something super expensive but if you can't afford it, you can't afford it, plain and simple. no shame in that =]
That depends which dress ;) Yes, I am a 2 dress bride, but not intentionally. Luckily I got decent deals on both and haven't decided yet if I'll wear both.
First I found an anne barge sample from the la fleur collection for $2000 that normally retails for $3000. But I'm getting married in Puerto Rico and realized a little too late that it's rather hot and uncomfortable, so then I found a claire pettibone sample for $1500 that normally retails for $3000 (though it's a discontinued style). I'll definitely be wearing the claire, but may also use the anne (for the reception) since I did pay for it.
So total for both ended up being $4500, which I never expected to spend for a dress, but at least i got 2 out of it : )
Oops, bad math, total of $3500 : )
I spent more then I should've but it's the dress so I couldn't really walk away.
It's a Maggie Sottero Destination dress and I spent around 900 but I still have to pay for the extra length (I won't know how much that is until later) and then who knows if I'll need to then shorten it. (I only needed maybe two inches but it comes with 5 extra inches.)
mine is watters "san miguel", supposed to retail for $1430, but i bought it during a trunk-show promotion for around $1000. but i had to pay an extra $215 at the last moment for "extra length" because they said that at 5'7" and with 3-inch heels (total height 5'10") i was too tall for normal length.
(anyone? anyone? did i really need extra length??? i'm only 5'7" -- and don't most brides wear heels?)
anyway, i will also need last-minute alterations. i'm thinking it'll be around $1450 total in the end, anyway.....
mine is from demetrios - paid $1250 with my hollow to hem alteration. hopefully when it comes in it will fit great and i'll only have to pay for a bustle. fingers are crossed!
@sleepylittlesailor, YES you might need extra length! I am 5'11" and Bill Levkoff BM dresses are made for women who are 5'8". I DEFINITELY needed all 5 extra inches with my modest 2" heels on. Your'e talking about 3 whole inches, not just an inch you could "get away with"
My Maggie fit just fine but I wore super duper flat sandals. It barely graced the floor.
I'd err on the side of more length, but stuff is notoriously short on me
Mine was originally 1200 but i bought it off the rack and got 300 off so 900!
My dress is a Maggie Sottero, and I paid just under $800 for "her" :) Don't forget to factor in any potential alteration costs...those can definitely add up!!!
I (and by I, I mean my parents) paid a little over 6k for mine. (Is it bad that I can't remember the exact number?) We shall see what the final total is after any alterations. It's being custom made for a special pattern built especially for my tall ass, but I've lost 13 lbs since we ordered it about a month ago.
It's the Christos by Maribel. http://www.christosbridal.com/gowns/2009/maribel.shtml
I paid for a maggie sottero $870. I wont need any alterations done!!
Order it petite length and will be good!! I also had to shop around since the it retails for $1100 or so.
My cousin bought her gown Mon Cheri for $90 dls in a sale It retails a little over $100
@babilu - you look flantastic in that gorgeous thing! oh man. stunning.
my dress was $900 from pronovias. i found that they had a wide range of prices in all the different lines (la sposa, manuel mota, etc), so i was happy about that. my original budget was actually higher, but im not one to max out a budget just because it's there and really liked the dress i picked (very full ballgown with long train) so the price was really a big bonus.
i would def suggest looking there. they even gave me 10% off without me even asking!
