We are only having 2 people stand on each side of us, as we’re having a small wedding. Although my sister knows she’ll be MOH (and my fiance’s sister will be a bridesmaid), I still want to ask them in a cute way. So far, I have a box with a small bottle of champagne in it, and bought cards that ask them to be the specific “role”. I know that should be enough, but am the type of person who always tries to do the above and beyond when it comes to gifts… so I’m thinking of putting a lip gloss (Philosophy or a VS one), and a nail polish (maybe in a color of the wedding – which hasn’t really been nailed down) in there as well, just for fun.
What did you do?

Sounds like a cute idea, I’m someone who always goes above and beyond for gifts so I totally understand.
Its sweet of you to do that

Sounds cute! We are only having our brothers stand with us and my best friend as my MOH. We both just KNEW – it was assumed. A few weeks ago I decided I’d give her a piece of paper with the official question on there – I used some screen captures of bits of our invites and wrote “HerName, let’s make this official! will you be my maid of honor? Love, Me” – The phrasing seemed fitting, and it’s also the way my FI “proposed” – he told me he’d ordered the ring and showed it to me online. Well, that was the week before Christmas, and there was no way that we wouldn’t be able to tell our families (especially since my parents were coming to town from out of state a few days later, just so they COULD meet his families). So we spent the week celebrating, and my ring came the day my parent left, and when he got home with it he gave me the box and said “Let’s make this official – will you marry me?” So, when I realized I could use that line too, and my MOH KNEW it, I had to!

I love that you are giving little gifts to ask. I did too, and I just think it makes it that much more special! I gave a simliar box to my bridesmaids, had a mini chamagne bottle, a ring pop, a popcorn bag and some pop rocks. The front of the box had a card said, “He popped the questions, now I am. Will you be my _____”. And lots of other cute will you be there for ____ questions. I got the idea from pintrest and then made it specific to each girl. My FI is not as gift giving crazy as I am and didn’t want to go over the top. he gave out a card that said “Dear ______, Hey bro! i’m getting married my future wife made me give you this card. Will you be my groomsmen? Your friend, ______ PS there will be an open bar.” It actually had the blnaks for him to fill in and all. Everyone got a good laugh and the guys loved them! I’m adding pictures, but am not sure you’ll be able to see very well.

I made them each a custom piece of jewelry, then made a gift box and shipped them to each girl (I’m in NC my girls were in CA).

I bought bridesmaid tanktops from etsy and painted wooden hangers with their name and “role” on it. I then made a card and left it all in a bag on their doorstep. Most of my bridesmaids probably knew they were going to be in the wedding, but I think they appreciated the extra sentiment ESPECIALLY in the age of Pinterest and all the creative DIY ideas out there.
