I don’t think I’ll be much help since my wedding song is my offical song with my FI (Edwin McCain – Could Not Ask For More). How long do you have to pick a song? Could you wait a bit and see what new songs come out that you may like? Also are there any songs that mean anything to you and your FI? First song you ever danced to? Something you both like to sing out loud to? nothing is traditional anymore so if you have something that means something play it – fast or slow!

Well, my fiance and I chose our first dance song based on what we both liked. We knew that we wanted something untraditional but still sweet and sounded like us. We opted for a Japanese love song. He was really into Japanese music before I met him and he got me into it as well. It’s actually the first song that he sent me the youtube link to for the music video.

Choose a song that speaks a lot to you as a couple. My fiance and I had to narrow the list down from about 5 wonderful songs that we could have chosen. Maybe if you can at least narrow it down to a particular artist, you can check and see if they have any songs that speak to you. There’s a band that I love that normally does harder rock that has an absolutely amazing love song that we’re going to play during the reception. You’d be surprised at times.

Besides, who says you have to have a slow song for the first dance?

not sure what song yet, but we’re doing something we can swing dance to. I hate the boring slow sappy songs. and really want to kind of surprise people with that, although they should expect craziness from me….

We wanted a song we could swing dance to. However, the regular swing dance music tends to sound to my FI like music her grandparents would listen to. My FI finally picked out a song we both like–Leonard Cohen’s “Dance Me to the End of Love”–that has an appropriate beat for swing dancing, but is not a swing dance song as such.

my FI and i went to san francisco for vacay 2 years ago and was in some little shop and we heard this song playing and look at each other and smiled.  we asked the cashier what this was and he said he didn’t know.  the day before we left to go back home to chicago we went back into the store to ask one more time about that song.  there was a new girl at the register and i told her we heard this one song in here the other day and it went like… and she was like, "oh that’s my cd.  it’s so and so."  i was like yes!  so it is our song now.  and everytime we listen to we both think of our romantic vacation in san francisco!

We knew we wanted an oldie, and I heard a great potential song — nearly a year ago! — on one of those retro CD set infomercials.  I jotted down the group and title, and when the time came to pick our first dance song, shared it with Mr. Bruschetta, who agreed it’s perfect!

We wanted something unique that isn’t often picked for a first dance song, something older, shorter (ours is just two minutes) and peppy so we could do a fast-ish dance to it!

I had made my hubby (then FH) a CD for one of our Christmases together, and it was a mishmosh of fun songs and mushy that just reminded me of him. "Come Away With Me" was one of the songs. He told me that it was his favorite song on the CD, and it ended up being ‘ours’.

We also wanted a song we could swing dance to… but we’re kind of beginner Lindy Hoppers, so it’s not like we could pull off a "Jump, Jive and Wail" type tempo, so we chose Nina Simone’s "My baby don’t care".  It’ll be a little slow, but allow us to execute all the moves we learned!
