How did you decide on a hairstyle?

With so much choice in hairstyles, I'm finding it hard to decide. I look better with hair down, but I'm also very practical and an August outdoor wedding is simply hot.

Hair up would be the best thing to do. I'm also taking into account my gown, which is strapless with a low back, and again it seems to point to hair up.

I just hate the way hair up looks on me though. It does nothing for me. Do I sweat it out? Do I compromise on half up half down?

How did you Bees decide? Did you flaunt practicality and just do what you wanted? Did it work out?

I have very long hair - down to the middle of my back - and am wearing it down during my wedding. Several factors contributed to my decision. First, the style of our wedding - it is a semi-formal beach affair. Stuffy ball gowns and fussy updo's would looks silly and out of place at such an affair. Second, my FH loves my hair down  : ) Third, I just plain look better with it down. My nose appears far more prominent with my hair pulled all the way back, and lord knows that's the last thing I need.

I don't think a half up, half down style would keep you any cooler, because the nape of your neck would still be covered by your hair and that's the part that gets hot. If you're going to head in that direction, may as well wear it all down. But truly, wear your hair in a style that makes you feel gorgeous, whether that be up, down, or purple!

    Hey there!

I was debating hair up or down too. I like myself better with it up, but my FI likes it better down and several friends commented that having my hair up "doesn't seem like" me.

I found my inspiration, believe it or not from the movie, Ironman. I collected a bunch of photos of Gwenyth Paltrrow in character as Pepper Potts and that is how I'm going to wear my hair! Half up and half down. Her face structure is similar to mine, and we have similar length hair, so I think it will be great!

Some stylists can do a style where you have it up for the ceremony and can easily take it down for the reception. That may be an option too.

    Good luck!

I'm having the same dilema... I keep tearing out picture from magazine but they all different. I'm starting to lean toward a low puffy ponytail.. something like this

Are you having a hair trial?  If so, bring in a few options that you think might work (up, down, half-and-half) along with pics of your dress and anything you'll have in your hair.  The stylist should be able to do a few looks for you to help you decide.  Be sure to take pictures. :)

I'm struggling with this too! I may just decide the day of - I know that's terrible but I kind of want to go with how I feel. If it's really hot I'll probably go with up all the way, and if I can stand it I'm leaning toward half up/half down. I almost always wear my hair all the way down, so it's odd for me to go with fancy updo, too.

I had several hair trials, none of which turned out the way I wanted.

I rarely wear my hair up and I too feel uncomfortable in a formal updo, even though our wedding is very formal and so is my dress.

I'm going with what I'm comfortable with and I'm doing my own hair.

I have a plan of how I'll style it, but you never know when a bad hair day pops up so I'm "winging it".

I went to the hairdresser for a hair trial. I told her what I thought would look best (hair down, with a slight curl) and that my wedding is in August outdoors.  She did a wonderful job doing something that looked good, and would keep in the heat. My dress also has an interesting back, and it would be better to put my hair up... I just don't think I look as good with it up.  I think you should wear your hair how you feel best.

I suggest a trial during a hot month to see how your hair holds up and what the stylist says.

I'm agonizing about this now, because if I'm wearing it up, I have to decide now and finish growing it out.

All my girlfriends are saying go short and wear it down, but I always envisioned an updo.

Its a tough one!  I say whatever makes you feel most natural.

Fancy updos aren't me at all, so I'm going half up-half down, and if I get hot, I'll sweep it up myself with a comb or a chopstick or something. I agree with doctorgirl -- you should really go with what feels most natural and most like you.

I am having a beach ceremony as well, but I am wearing my hair up. I'm hoping to do a loose updo with a headband. I saw a picture of Natalie Portman with a Jennifer Behr headband in her hair and her hair was wavy and pulled back. I can't find a picture, but it looked great. If I don't do that, I'm going to just have it curled, then pulled back so it won't be slicked back to my head and then put a flower in my hair. I wear my hair back most days and have sunglasses on all the time, so when I wear my hair down people are kinda taken aback. :)
