My Main Shower, at least, isn't a surprise at all. I gave them the colors that I wanted to use and the theme. I also helped with picking the date :)
I had stated I wanted nothing to do with a surprise shower. I HATE surprises (my ring wasnt a surprise nor are my x-mas gifts)
So they told me the date. Ya im a spoiled brat!
Mine isn't a surprise either but I wish I had input on the colors/theme. But I should just be pleased that someone is throwing me a shower, right?
FMIL called me and said "We need to have your shower soon! Get registered!"
I know the date and time!
So not really a surprise!
@stephinPA: I really wanted to wear a certain dress, so it was important to me that the colors went along with the dress. Also, I originally wanted a Japanese inspired wedding, but FI has never been to Japan, so It made no sense. So, I knew that I wanted my shower to reflect this about me. Now I get a Cherry Blossom/Japanese themed shower with turquoise, like my dress.

FMIL found out and offered a few weeks later to throw me a huge one. i was the liasion between FMIL and MOH in the beginning, so i knew about it from the get-go. regardless, it was perfect, even tho it wasnt my wishes... and i'm thankful to have a FMIL who was kind enough to offer me a formal shower at a hall

Mine is a surprise, it is actually next weekend. My FI's Aunt dropped the ball at a family party. I love surprises and I am kinda bummed that I now know date and location
I will probably know about mine. I'm sure my MOH will keep some details a secret but I expect I'll know the basics.
During one of our BM meetings i.e. a night at a wine bar : ) we discussed dates for the shower and bachelorette party...it was just a given and we wanted to make sure everyone could attend.
I planned my sister's shower and sent her an invite =) I ran the theme I had in mind by her before hand to make sure that she was OK with it.She also knew the date well in advance b/c she had to request leave since she is in the Navy.
On a side note: I included an insert that gave her lingerie size just in case guests wanted to give a more "personal" gift. I left that insert out of her invite so it was a surprise when all of the sexy panties and nighties were unwrapped...LOL. She LOVED it. She got a good mix of items from her wedding registry and lingerie so she was pretty pleased.
my BFF left a few hours ago she came over poured her self a drink *yum Pepsi* and handed me a calendar told me to pick a date *October 9th* and we put together the guest list lol no it wasn't suprise or anything but she knows I hate suprises anyways
but i will add she's not telling me about the cake but i know it can be a giggle stick bc my mom would DIE!!!
Are showers usually a surprise? I've been helping out with the planning of my shower, so I've known about it all along.
I pretty much had to plan mine - so I knew all the details and plans. Long story!
I was told that it was being planned and then I got an invitation.
They were trying to keep it a suprise. Until i mentioned to my MOH that someone on here was invited to the shower who wasn't invited to the wedding...
she was like hmm i need an updated list LOL
