@Serey:  Most dogs are pretty easy…although certain breeds just don’t jive with babies, so know that ahead of time…with our boys, its best to put the car-seat on the couch, let them get a good look and more importantly a good whiff and once all the curiosity and excitement is over…its all good….Our Great Pyrenese and Greyhound were especially interested and concerned whenever our nephew would cry or cough and run over to him to make sure everything was ok….we get a lot of babies at our house so they’re pretty bored with the tiny person phenomenon at this point, but if we’re watching someone for an overnight, the Pyrenese insists on sleeping in their room…just in case.

@Serey:  …thats an interesting mix you’ve got there…shouldn’t be any problems.  Jealousy is probably going to happen, but dogs are really adaptive and also family/pack oriented, be consistent and remember to give some extra loves to your fur-baby, it will all be fine.

I read somewhere, (maybe Ceasar?) to block off the nursery before the baby arrives, that way they don’t negatively associate the baby as the reason for them not being allowed there. I have a big lazy lab so I’m not at all worried, but Nona is right about breeds reacting differently.  My SIL got a herding breed with TONS of energy that they don’t help it to expend, and I can see there being issues there.  Good Luck!

I also heard that if you take a blanket that the baby laid in for awhile, then give that blanket to the dog so it can play with it or whatever it wants for a bit until the baby arrives, then it will be used to the baby’s smell and more likely to almost ignore it?
