My story is long but I love sharing it. I would love hearing yours too!
I went on a date with a guy. He was nice, we liked each other, but we both knew it just wasn’t going to work out to be more than friends. He was changing careers, I was a single mom.
My finance was friends with that guy and had heard about our date. He said he was sad, he didn’t know I was single again. Apparently he had met me about 5 years before.
Five months later, he saw me in a store from afar. He then brought up my name while on a hockey trip with a bunch of guys. My uncle was on the trip and said he would find out if I was dating again.
My uncle forgot about it for a few weeks and then told my aunt. We have mutual friends and they called me. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to date again, but it piqued my curiosity. They approached me the right way, gave me enough info to make me curious, but didn’t push. I asked around and it seemed like everyone knew him except for me and just loved him.
The next night, I had a flue (chimney) fire and had to call the Fire Dept. It was pretty scary, the house filled with smoke and I was in a room putting my 2 year old into bed. I found out the next day that he was a volunteer firefighter.
I then felt very grateful to firefighters for saving my house and also wanted to know if he was here and saw me at my worse. (He missed it) but then saw my facebook status update (through friend that I went on date with) shortly after that and kicked himself for missing the call and having a chance to come here.
We went on a date a few days later and have been inseparable since our 2nd date. He’s not who I thought I would end up with, he’s 10 yrs older than me and so outgoing, but it’s a perfect match. He’s been a fantastic father figure for my son too, I couldn’t ask for a better guy. We talked marriage quickly and got engaged at 5 months. We’ll have known each other for 14 months at our wedding.
So, what’s your story?

@MapleBecky: AWWWW, so cute!
Fiance and I met allllll the way back in 3rd grade. Apparently he had a huge crush on me since he was 8 years old (FMIL says he used to come home and gush about me all the time… LOL)! In our senior year of high school he finally got up the courage to make a move and we’ve been going strong ever since. 🙂 We got engaged during our junior year of undergrad. We are first years in medical and law school now and will be getting married this July.

@meladoug: I love that!!! I went to a wedding once where they were “going out” in grade 8. He kissed her while skiing and she dumped him! He liked her all those years and she gave him another chance while in their 20s.
@rothbridetobe: I was always too scared to internet date! I’m so glad it all worked out!

haha well I already posted this once today, but here you go! We technically first met in preschool as 4 year olds 🙂 We grew up together and really became friends in high school. Through lots of typical HS drama, we finally ended up dating when we were 16/17. 5 years later we are getting married! We are both teachers (currently, I’m teaching preschool myself and I wonder about my students and who they will become in 20 years :))
He happened to be sitting directly behind me in our preschool class picture (sorry about the awful quality–it was the early 90’s and it’s been cropped majorly lol):

We met in a bar. No kidding. It was through mutual friends, though. There were a bunch of us meeting up to hang out and chill after work, and there he was. The first thing he said to me was, “You have really nice legs.” (I was wearing a skirt) I was putty in his hands after that, ’cause I’ve always thought my legs were one of my best features, but nobody had ever actually said it. I was like, “Yes! Finally someone recognizes my great legs!” Turns out, he’s just a sucker for skirts. Gets him every time. So, apparently, HE was putty in MY hands as long as I was rockin’ that mini!
We’ve been inseperable ever since 🙂

@Wonderwoman217: Too funny! My best friend met her husband in a bar. Those stories are always good!
@kayely88: Awesome! I was just starting to look into EHarmony and met my fiance.

We met at a party. I had gone out dancing with my girlfriends and ended up at this party in his res apartment. In all honesty… I was very drunk. I found an empty bed, and laid down on it with my friend to sleep. Turns out, this was his room, and he came in to find me and my friend half asleep in his bed. He tried to get us to leave, my friend relented and left, while I stayed behind (he was too cute for me to leave!)
After realizing that in my drunk obnoxious state I wasn’t going anywhere, he put on a zombie movie, 28 Days Later, in an attempt to scare me and make me leave. What he didn’t know was that I am a HUGE zombie freak and 28 Days Later is one of my favourites. After learning this, he was let me stay. We watched the movie and talked until 5 in the morning. He tried to be a gentleman, making up a bed on the floor for himself, but I insisted we share the bed. He continued being a gentleman and kept his hands to himself all night. It was very innocent, and kind of romantic.

@rothbridetobe: @kayely88: We met on a dating website, too! I’m glad I’m not the only one 🙂 I used to be kind of embarrassed about it, but now so many of my friends have met their SOs online, I feel like it’s becoming so much more common.
Fiance loves to tell everyone about it! The first time we talked on the phone before we met, we talked for over 4 hours, it was a great connection. Now I always tell my friends they should try online dating…it’s such a great way to meet someone you would never have met otherwise!

We met through a mutual friend. I saw a picture of him on her myspace (back when it was cool to have a myspace lol) and I thought he was cute. She told him what I said and he wanted to meet me. My friends and I and his friends and him all met up at the mall on a Saturday night. We walked around the mall talking and he asked me out right before we left the mall. We didn’t hang out again for a few weeks because of a lot of things going on and I guess he was on the verge of dumping me because of that but we finally hung out again the next month and it’s been great since.

I posted my story on another thread a few days ago, so I will copy and past from that, but I just wanted to point out that I have seriously considered posting a profile on eHarmony or something like that, and having the hubs do the same, and then see if they would think we would be a match!! I hear so many great stories like the ones posted here, and I’m curious to see if they think we are as perfect together as I do (even though we are total opposites in some respects).
