So bees...how did you meet your FI, or SO?
I met mine when I was bartending at my family's pool hall. I tease him all the time, because he never tipped me. I know he was completely broke, but he says it's because he knew he'd be tipping me for life. And that I got the biggest tip of all..his number.
My husband and I went to the same high school for a year (he was a military brat).
We met through a mutual friend. I worked with a guy that he went to high school with, and he introduced us!
We went to high school together. Lost touch, married and divorced other people, then remet at a gathering of people from our graduating class who reconnected through Facebook of all things. We've been together ever since.
We met at a summer job. The plan was to have a summer fling and go our separate ways. 7 years later, here we are ;o)
In an 8 am public speaking class freshman year of college. It was so early in the morning and the class was so terrible that we didn't speak to each other, even though we sat right next to each other, for the first two months of the class! I am so glad he eventually asked to borrow a pencil.
We met at the dojo where we both train for martial arts. I was in a relationship at the time and started karate to be more active, make some friends and gather enough courage to leave the relationship. I started the day that a serious relationship was ending for him. Talk about meant to be... ;)
We trained together and started hanging out with the group, and soon became close friends - hit it off instantly and became inseparable as soon as we got together.
My cousin was dating a girl for years (they even have a baby together) ... that girl introduced us (although we kind of spotted eachother on her MYSPACE page.. haha). We met one week and were boyfriend and girlfriend the next. although ide say it took us 2 or 3 years to REALLY get serious.
Eharmony.com!
We had both just moved to Myrtle Beach for work and didn't want to meet the lovely singles that MB had to offer at a bar. We were matched Thursday and had our first date on Friday. Not quite 2 years later, here we are!
My best friend was dating his best friend. We stood up for them in their wedding, and now they are doing the same for us.
High school, i was in 9th, he was in 11th...:) but we didnt date til I was 20 and he was 22
DH and I have little sisters who were best friends in high school. One day about 5 years ago, they were sitting at the lunch table and decided to "set us up." That's about the time we met, although we didn't start dating until 3 years later. So, I guess having pesky/annoying littler sisters can really pay off!
Actually I met him for the first time a few years ago. He was dating a friend from high school. He resurfaced about 2 years ago and was dating my little sister so that sometimes seems weird to people, but we eventually discovered that the two of us were more compatible and my sister had broken up with him almost a year before we started noticing each other.
We went to high school together and were friends for a long time before we started dating, the summer before our junior year of college. So we've been dating for almost 5 years now, but have known each other for over 11! My folks met in elementary school, so I guess it runs in the family :-)
An online dating site :)
I'd been on the site for a couple months and hadn't had much luck. I decided to go on one last time before discontinuing my membership. So, of course, that was when I found The Guy.
I met my DH at work - I was a hostess at a restaurant in Downtown Disney and he was just hired to work the pizza window and runner as his summer job. My hostess stand was just across from the pizza window :) When he became a runner, I would move either upstairs or downstairs depending on where he was, it was so obvious to our managers. One day "I hated working downstairs and wanted to be upstairs" then the next day it would be opposite!
I had decided to take a break from college so my daughter could spend more time with her dad who works on the road doing refinery stuff and he found a job in WA that was going to last about 2 years. Eventually I got a job out on the job-site for a piping company but that company lost the 2nd phase contract and it was awarded to another piping company. I was about 2 days away from going back to Oklahoma when the other piping company called and offered me a job. My FI was a welding inspector for that company and it was actually really funny because his brother and him were both interested in me and would make up reasons to come into my trailer. Super obvious stuff too, like come to get one pen then 5-10 min later come to get a package of post-its and they never knew each other was doing the exact same thing and everyone gave them crap about it...it was actually very hilarious, we joke about it all the time now. One day FI sent me an email asking some question about his check and then slightly hinted about whether I was single or not and it just kind of went from there. We fully had intentions on just being some sort of summer fling to each other bc I made it clear from the beginning I didnt want a relationship or anything like that and I was leaving in June (we started talking in Feb) and since I was from Oklahoma and he was from California/Nevada, we were both fine with that and then when it came down to me leaving we both kinda became really bummed and he was trying to convince me to travel with him and I told him I couldnt bc of my daughter and I jokingly said move to the mid-west with me and he said "......um....ok" and here we are
We met at work. He was in charge of "babysitting" me when my trainer was in meetings.
We owned condos in the same building. I lived there for almost a year before we met.
he was living on the opposite side of the country in OR but had a free flight he needed to use up or it would expire. he decided to fly to NC, where i live, to visit a friend of mine.
she cooked up a plot to get us together. i came over to her house the day he arrived and he was sitting in the kitchen eating chips and salsa. he looked cute eating his chips and salsa! we hit it off that day and stayed in touch from the day he left a week later to go back to OR. i never cried so hard as i did when i dropped him at the airport. i also never felt so crazy, as i'd only known him a week!
fast forward five months from that tearful airport goodbye: he decided to move out to NC to give things a try. the rest is history!
for me it really did happen when i least expected it... i mean, heck, we lived on opposite coasts for 27 years of our lives, with no idea the other existed!
A blind date! His bf was dating my bf and it was prom season lol and I needed a date and they thought we might hit it off so I agreed to go on the date. Turns out my FI didnt know it was a blind date he thought his bf was just taking him to the movies lol. We started dating two weeks later and my bf and his bf broke up one day later....My bf tells me she knows that the only reason she and my FIs bf dated was for me and my FI to meet she says it was meant to be and I TOTALLY agree...there were just so many things we had in common and so many times we could have bumped into each other but didnt!
We met in sixth grade when my family moved and sent me to the private school where R had gone his whole life. We're the same age and the school was so small there was only one sixth grade class of about 25 people.
Our story is odd...
Two of my friends were going to audition for a "fashion show", but it's not your traditonal fashion, it was sort of like "fetish fashion", its definately an R-rated show.. anyways, they were going to the audition and wanted me to come along. I was just going to hang out, and have a few drinks -I am in no way comfortable with any type of exhibitionism... fine with it if its your thing, but it's not for me, so I was just there for support.
The auditions were at a gay bar that was closed for the evening. This is the place where the final event would be held months from that date. My fiance was in the same room at the same time. His friends had talked him into going too.
On the television screens around the bar, were men... they were dressed in skimpy outfits and modelling... then it would say like "stephen"... Anyways, my FI came up to me and said "what are we watching?" We wound up at the bar, and chatting the whole night. We hung out and chatted for about 8 hours that night. And the rest is history!
Strange, eh?
We originally met in fifth grade and went to school for like 2 years, but only knew of each other. We met again on Myspace, through a page set up for graduates of that school, about 3 years ago.
we met at my first "real life job" .. a private mutual fund/life insurance company... i was a newb and FI was in management... it was against the rules. in more ways than one!
i actually was still with my on/off again college boyfriend at the time...
i started hanging out a lot with the coworkers... asked for the break from the exboyfriend... and FI and i started hanging out almost everyday...
needless to say i broke up with my ex a couple of weeks later (it was 6 months in the making)... FI and I had our share of fun, dates, sneaking around!... we didn't officially start dating until 6 months later...
we both quit the place ... and LOVE where our lives have gone since then (it's a real crooked company with a crooked boss and 100% commission job)... the only good thing it brought us was each other!
p.s. the company was in another part of metro-detroit that FI and i both happened to be living near post-college... lo and behold, we both grew up in the same suburb town of troy, mi! ;P me on the west side and him on the east side... rival high schools... i think he even used to cut the grass at my high school when i was a wee lil freshman at lacrosse practice! :P he was a senior... i call him a cradle robber even tho he's only 2 years older hahahaah LOL
I started a part-time bartendering job to help pay off my loans and he was my boss. The bar was australiasian and the majority of staff were from Australia or New Zealand. I worked there for 2 weeks but couldn't handle the late nights (I was working full-time 9-5 also) so packed it in. I went in there a few nights later to hand back my work key and uniform and we both could tell that the other was interested and wanted to ask each other on a date but both chickened out. A few days later I added him on facebook, the very next day he emailed me to ask me out, I turned him down 3 times (Playing hard to get, ha!), six months later his visa was expiring so we both moved back to Australia and the rest is history....
Highschool. But didn't start dating until he came home for the summer after first year university - and I had just broken up with my ex ;)
my old band that i was singing in was playing a show in Grand Rapids and my FI was there to see his friend's band open up for us. He saw me and assumed I was dating one of the 5 guys playing in my band, so was too nervous to talk to me after he noticed me on stage. a few days later he looked up my profile from my bands Myspace and found out that i was single and then decided to talk to me. we chatted through the website for a few weeks and finally he traveled to kalamazoo (where i was living at the time) with his friend. I thought he was really cute but i guess i really hooked him when i told him that Tequila gave me the power to see through clothes.
:) :)
the short version is at an outdoor concert at our college. The long version is more complicated - we were the same major at our school (only 11 people were in this major) yet we didn't know of each other. We both had been accepted to the same summer internship program and each of us had professors tell us, "Oh, so and so got into that program too". We still didn't know each other. I told my friend that I wanted to meet this guy because so many profs told me about him. My friend knew who he was because her dad was the boss of his brother in law. I was with my friend at that concert one Saturday night at our school. She saw my future husband and brought me over to him and introduced us. We stayed together the whole rest of the night, ate pizza together, and my friend and I even went to his dorm room and hung out with him and his roommates. When I left that night I told my friend as we were walking to the bus that I think I liked this guy a lot. I went home and wrote in my journal that I met the man I was going to marry. It's been almost 5 years since that night in the middle of April 2005. We got married in October 2009.
@egb - I also met my FI through martial arts!
I met my FI the summer after second year university (sophomore year for you Americans!). I was working in a research lab, and my roomates had moved home for the summer, so I was all by myself. Bored out of my mind, I saw an ad for student prices to join a local Tae Kwon Do dojang... my FI also joined becuase he was bored and wanted to get more actice! We became fast friends, then partners, and were eventually inseperable. Thank you Martial Arts!
I went to the rec center with my friend to see her bf and he was there. She already had him in mind for me and she introduced us. We have been together ever since.
The funny thing is that he noticed me about two years before we meet at the rec center, but he thought I wasn't going to like him. Plus, he lives down the street from my grandfather. LOL Now we are getting married.
My freshman year of college I was working at Jamba Juice and he came in and ordered two smoothies. I thought he was reallly handsome, but he ordered two smoothies so I assumed he had a girl waiting in the car or something. He also ordered a pretzel and I accidently burned it and I felt AWFUL, but he said he liked burnt pretzels so I gave it and his smoothie to him for free and he left. Ten minutes later he came back with a tiny paper in his hands. I had a feeling he wanted to give me his number, but my huge manly coworker was standing right next to me and I could tell he was embarrassed to do it in front of him. So he said, "Hi, um... I was just wondering... what's the nutritional value of wheatgrass?" I answered his question and my coworker went outside (he figured it out) He then handed me his number and the rest is history :)
he told me later that the 10mins he was gone he was out in his car looking for a pen!
