So seeing as though some of us will be here for a while (maybe just me! :)) How did you meet your SO and do you have a story? I know this has probably been posted before, but for some of the newbees like myself I haven’t yet come across it!
I met my SO when visiting a friend (Mike) at the beginning of university. We went out for a few drinks as a large group and during the evening I lost Mike. At the same time a lady called Liz decided to make her move on me (!). She does Karate and works as security at a nightclub so I wasn’t going to argue!
She put her hands either side of me on the bar and asked if I fancied going somewhere quiet with her. Now i’m 100% LGBT friendly but i’m not gay myself so I wasn’t interested.
i looked over her shoulder to see if anyone could help me and my now SO, came over out of no-where and said ‘Liz, I don’t think she’s feeling very comfortable right now, so can I get you a drink and talk to ’emmylouloubobells’ myself?’ Liz soon gave up.
Later that night we were all sitting in SO’s room watching a film, and the boys kept asking me to move up to create more space on the bed – needless to say after scooting over a few times, I fell off the bed! My SO looked down at me from the bed, smiled and offered me a hand up. 2 weeks later Mike and my SO came to a party at my house. During the evening my SO took me to sit on the windowsil and told me that I was the most beautiful chick he’s every had to scrape up off of the floor (haha!) and that’s how it all started, 8 years later we’re still here!
Tell us your stories!

Match. In different locations with different jobs with opposite schedules and different social circles we would never have met. I found him on a 1 month trial. It’s amazing how we lucked out.

The first Saturday night at college. The power went out and I found him and his roommates playing cards. We barely spoke that night, but he wanted to go to the cafeteria together all the time… I finally got the message haha.

In a bar.
It was not a romantic meeting at all. Actually I struck up a conversation with the woman he was with and after chatting with her for a long while she introduced us! lol! Months later our paths crossed. He asked me out and I declined because I remembered him being with that woman. A couple more months went by and our paths crossed again. He was able to explain that he and that woman were not a couple so we went out to dinner and the rest is history.

Through a good friend/coworker. Let’s call her A.
I met A at work and we hit it off. Months later, I was helping her and her family move her into a new apartment. Out of nowhere, her mom says “You know who would make a good match for LuckyClover? SO!” and A agrees. I had had a few Match dates but nothing had panned out so I told A if she wanted to, set up a way for me to meet him.
See once upon a time, SO was engaged to A’s older sister. The entire world could see that the relationship wasn’t going to work but not SO. He did become a brother figure to A and her younger sister and continued to be after the relationship dissolved.
Nothing happened for a few months (SO was dating someone at the time) but after New Year’s A finally gets ahold of SO, who had since broken up with the other girl. Gets him to meet her, another coworker and me at a bar & grill. SO and I didn’t actually talk that much but enough to know we didn’t hate each other 🙂 We hadn’t sat next to each other at the bar so it was hard to talk one-on-one.
Since we hadn’t talked much at the bar, A decides to throw a Super Bowl party so we can talk some more. Silly me, since I wasn’t sure if SO ‘liked me’ liked me or not, I brought a (male) buddy from college so I would have someone to talk to besides A if things didn’t work out with SO. And we did talk but SO kept his distance because I brought my friend with!
We did exchange numbers and started texting. Finally met a few times just the two of us and sometimes with a couple that he was friends with. About 6 weeks after the Super Bowl party we finally started dating. Neither of us can remember which weekend we decided we were dating so our dating anniversery is between the two weekends. 🙂 It’ll be three years on March 25.

His best friend and my best friend were dating, they asked us both seperately to go to a festival with them, not really like a double date, but they did set us up 🙂

We went to high school together but we didn’t have any mutual friends or anything so we never hung out or talked. I saw him around in my sophomore year and thought he was cute, but being a shy person never did anything about it.
In the Spring of my senior year, my criminology class and his business law class went on a combined field trip and I kept telling my friend how cute he was. After the trip I looked at his myspace and found out he was really into cars so I messaged him on there with some car questions I quickly made up. We really hit it off and had our first date that same week. We have been together ever since!

@emmylouloubobells: That story is hilarious!!!!!!! Love it! Also, great idea for a thread!
My story: I lived in Florida and was blogging about training for a marathon. My now Fiance was doing the same from Michigan. He found my blog and left a comment as we were both training for the same marathon, Chicago Marathon. I checked his profile, saw he lived in Michigan, near where I grew up, and we struck up a friendship. We finally met in person four months later at the marathon expo, he had me at “hello beautiful.” We went on our first date two days after the marathon at Shedd’s Aquarium.
We did the long distance thing for eight months before I made the move from Florida to Michigan and we couldn’t be happier! It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever had happen to me but darned if it didn’t work out perfect.

I also met my guy on Match during a one month trial. I was the first person he met after moving to a new city. We have been inseparable ever since.

My SO and I worked together when we were in Highschool/during the summer in early college. It was a large retail store, so when I say “worked together,” I mean we were in the same building. A few years later, when we were both working there as college students during breaks, a mutual work friend reminded us that we went to the same university. I told SO, “yeah, we should hang out sometime.” I didn’t mean it (haha). It turns out his good friend on campus was my roommate’s cousin, so we wound up hanging out anyways. He became one of my closest friends, and after 6 months or so, we started dating. I never thought I’d wind up with someone I met when I was 17…but 10 years later, I really can’t imagine my life without him 🙂

I met my SO at school. We used to talk on AIM during class and he would send me cheesy pharmacy pickup lines. I tried not to like him for a long time because we were both in relationships but eventually I gave in and here we are 🙂

I had a spare ticket to see my favorite band ever, and didn’t want to take just anyone – I wanted a true fan. So I put an ad on Craigslist. Chick or dude, it didn’t matter- I just wanted someone who’d appreciate the ticket.
He wanted a ticket to the sold out show to see his favorite band ever, so he looked on Craigslist for a ticket.
He found his ticket, alright. And now we’re gettin’ hitched.

This sounds like a 3rd-grade story, but for the record, we actually met in grad school:
We were in class together, and he sat behind me 🙂
@love108: We called those “caf dates” hahaha.
