How did you end up picking your date?
How did you end up picking your date?
i love the month of sept because in my wierd little universe, my calendar begins with september….lol both FH and I share the month of september for our birthdays….its also the month that we got back in touch with each other after 6 yrs….needless to say, september is a very important month to us both so we decided on that month….we also knew we wanted a long engagement so we looked at 2012….FH’s favorite number is 8 and when we checked the available saturdays in sept 2012, 8 happened to be a saturday so we went with that…..its also 2 days before FH’s birthday which is an added bonus 🙂
Mine was kind of by default, we knew we wanted spring…March or April so we arent too far off…Right after we got engaed my little brother told us he was deploying to afghanistan. Well apparently they dont like to tell them exactly when they are leaving…First is was November of this year, then got pushed to January, Now its being pushed to Early March…i really didnt want him to miss it so i kind of planned around him. i figured since we dont have an exact date but know its March sometime i should be safe and pick February…
We thought about waiting, but he might do back to back tours which is 14 months and i said no way jose am i waiting that long to get married. So Feb 12th it is (which i kind of hate because its so close to valentines day, how cliche is that?) but i figure, heck if he ever forgets our anniversary he has 2 days to make it up…and it better be good. haha
@MamaHusky3: we will be on our honeymoon for FH’s birthday! so exciting. Im gong to take him scuba diving since he has never been and really wants to go…(this is big for me because i am terrified of getting in the ocean) love to look at it, and even stick my feet in but lord knows me getting in it is a huge huge deal for me.
I knew I wanted July… and then I kind of wanted July 24th but the venue was booked then so we went with the 17th instead.
I let my FI choose.
Our friend got engaged a few days after us and they really wanted a fall wedding, so I ruled out the fall so they could have it and FI said since he can’t have fireworks at the wedding (we are getting married on a farm and the debris would be bad for the animals) he wanted a full moon…. so Aug 13th it is!
We picked a month, picked a venue and then picked their available date!
Picking the month was mostly weather based…not too hot, not too cold, not too rainy and more than a year from our engagement date (but less than 2 years).
Sept. 24, 2011 it is!
I wanted off season and not more than a year away (engaged in August) and on a Sat. The venue we found had this one day that worked with those qualifications. I wanted off season (but preferably close to “on” season) because you get better deals and can negotiate better with vendors. It has already saved me several thousand between negotiations with my photographer and caterer.
We knew we needed a holiday weekend, bc of FI’s (and his military buddies’) schedule. He’s in the military, so typically, he gets an additional day off of national holiday weekends, which would be great bc afterall there’s no wedding if he can’t make it there. We’re also working around his deployment schedule, and he was pretty sure he’d be back by the Summer. So we decided on Fourth of July weekend. We picked the Saturday and not the Sunday to make travel easier for his military friends. I’m thrilled that it’s looking like it will happen, especially since Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. Win-win.
I wanted a wedding in the winter time when it was colder in Houston Tx so I told him whether nov, dec, or jan. well we throw out Dec and Jan since its so close to Christmas and didnt want to put a burden on anyone so we worked with November. In a parking lot of a cool neat hang out place in Humble texas he said lets get married 1111 11 its a friday night so it will be cheaper. I was totally down with saving money and I like the date. He picked it so he could remember it lol
I always dreamt of having a summer wedding, but FI is shy and we’re getting married at a country club so he didn’t want all the golfers passing by and potentially watching. We decided on October 22 which happens to be our 5 year dating anniversary (actually our anniversary is the 21st, but we started dating on Saturday the 21, so it’s technically our 5 year anniversary weekend) and the week after the golf course closes!!
We planned around the sports schedules at our university ha ha. We wanted a fall wedding (more both sets of parents wanted a fall wedding and we didn’t mind giving them that) but I played volleyball and he played football so we got the schedules for 2011 to make sure our friends who still played could come. There was only 1 really good option so we went with it.
Well my FI always wanted to get married in August since it will be an outdoor wedding and that is usually the best month in Vermont. We picked 2012 because we needed time to plan the thing and save up, ontop of working on my phd!
We wanted it to be the beginning of my fiance’s spring break since it’s semi-destination and we could have a short minimoon afterward. We didn’t want to hurry to get there on Friday after class and Saturday is generally booked faster (we had to plan in a short amount of time after budget cuts) and more expensive so that put us at Sunday March 6. Also, we decided not to have a fall wedding because every fall wedding we’ve been to there’s at least a few guests sitting there looking up football scores and my fiance would have been one of them at our wedding.
Fall is both of our favorite season so we knew we wanted it to be during that time of year. We had planned on trying for a different date before we got the opportunity to meet with my DREAM venue. In order to book there we had to get married on a Friday which I was cool with (but ONLY for that venue. I wouldn’t have budged if it were anyplace else). We had our choice of a few different Fridays between September and October 2011 but we choose to go with 10/7/11 since it would be peak fall foliage.
