Make sure there are fans in the room? Air circulation will be your friend. Also ask at the venue what other brides have done.
I wouldn't go with the icepacks. You'll walk like somebody broke both your kneecaps, and what happens when they start sliding? I don't know what you're planning on doing with the washcloths, but if you want any makeup on by the end of the evening I would be careful. Face it, it's going to be hot. You're just going to be sweaty inside the dress. Make sure there is some air circulating, even if it's just fans, and especially in the dressing area. You can run off there and pull your skirt up to your waist, kick off your shoes, and cool off a little if you need to. I did. And drink lots and lots of ice water. Or maybe find a venue with air conditioning?
Thanks for the input, gals! About the washcloths - I realize now how weird that sounds. This is something that I saw in a gym at a resort once, and it was amazing. I was thinking they'd be available to all of the guests to cool off the backs of their necks in between dance sessions. I certainly won't be wiping off my makeup!
After a little bit of research, I've read that wearing a hoop skirt under your dress helps, so I'm going to do this (my dress is so huge that it won't make a difference).
Luckily, Seattle is usually mild in the summer, and the venue has a retractable roof, so I don't have to worry TOO too much about the heat. I suppose I'm just creating something to worry over because ... well... because I'm a bride.
I'm not too worried about the heat in Seattle. I feel like it's the rare day where we are really sweltering and usually by evening it's cooled off.
Good luck to you! It'll be fine.

I'm getting married in Seattle in July, at a venue with no air conditioning. My dress is exactly how I always envisioned it: covered in beading, with a tulle skirt out to THERE. (Any other Casablanca style 1866 brides in the house?) So it's gonna be a little hot.
How did you stay cool on your wedding day? The only brilliant idea I've had so far involves strapping icepacks to the backs of my knees with athletic bandages. I've also thought about having a mini-fridge somewhere near the dance floor that's filled with damp, scented washcloths. Any other advice? How can I stay comfortable throughout the evening?
