I had a DW in Mexico and booked a photog local to the area.  I found her by searching online.

@Hb7503:  Honestly this is the hardest thing to do.  Having a destination wedding in Greece (my only leg up is that I am Greek and speak the language).  Initially, my research involved going online.  I only considered those that had a good website, uploaded video’s and pictures, and good referrals ~ however I got put off if all referrals were 5 stars, made me suspicious.  My favourite vendor went to far and had video referrals of both the bride and groom on his website.

Anyways, I have booked some through this method… interesting enough the DJ we are thinking to use is known by a mutual friend and said only good things about him.  Small world.

We are planning on painstakingly looking through photographers online, booking, and then crossing our fingers and hoping to die 🙂

I found a local photog in Jamaica. I would have loved to bring my own but the resort I’m staying at requires 3 day stay so it wasn’t in the budget lol

@Hb7503:  I knew that I wanted to meet my photog before booking. So I looked at photographers in my state via Google and wedding blogs. I contacted a lot of different ones and finally clicked with one who also had reasonable fees for a destination wedding.

@Hb7503:  The travel fees was the biggie for us. Most photographers didn’t reduce their Price at all. Luckily, our photographer reduced her fees and we paid for all travel. It still ended up being more affordable for us in the end Than hiring someone in Maui.

I actually posted on WB once, looking for a DW photographer, closer to the venue.
I got approached by a very nice couple, but even with the generous free photography offer (except for albums and digital copies) — just paying for the photogs’ airfare and accomodation was going to quite comparable to booking someone locally in the city we live in.

Since we aren’t looking for a full photography coverage, we ended up with booking my favourite photojournalist out of the venue’s list of preferred photographers.

Plan A is to use the wedding coordinator’s suggested photographers and see if they are available.

Plan B is to search in the city we are getting married.

Plan C is to bring someone from here with me.
