Granted your actual ring should become your dream ring for the simple fact that the love of your life gave it to you, but let’s take him out of the picture for a minute. If you could design your own ring and had an unlimited budget, how much would it differ from your actual ring?

@Aquaria: Before I got engaged, I told my FI I wanted a round solitaire on a thin, plain, white gold band. I didn’t want anything huge, so I told him 0.5-0.75 carats would be plenty. I ended up with exactly what I wanted, only it’s 1.5 carats! The size actually looks really good on my hand and hasn’t gotten in the way like I thought it would. I would chose this ring any day over something more expensive or elaborate. Even if I had a chance to design my own ring with an unlimited budget, I would just want the exact same thing!

@Aquaria: My ring is my actual dream ring. I looked at so many I didn’t even realize until I was cleaning up my computer, and the first ring pic I ever saved was identical to the one that’s now on my finger.

I wanted an emerald cut, rectangle, solitaire. I got a radient cut, rectangle, solitaire. Looks just like an emerald cut. I like it better than an emerald that i wanted though.

I wanted 2 ct minimum solitaire on a thin band with a twist up to the claws. I got a 3 stone with 3 stones each side channel set, with the biggest single stone .3 ctfor a 1 ct tw. Funny thing is that I chose it! The solitaire just looks funny on my short fat fingers, and I rather like the’finger of bling’ that I now have, though would really love the solitaire to be in the cupboard!

its a different cut and a lower colour grade than i wanted.
However, i am completely in love with it now and i gotta say he was pretty damn close to perfection.

@Aquaria: very different! My band is just white gold and thicker than I would have picked out. I initially wanted a bigger solitaire on a thin pave band. But this is the one he picked and he had it specially designed – he picked out every last detail and mixed and matched pieces of other rings – to make it mine.

For background, the only thing I told FI I liked were rings with a pop of color. He had no idea what settings or sizes I liked. When daydreaming about rings before we were engaged, I’d often stop at 3-stone settings. I liked the balance and I liked the possibility of adding different colored stones as accents to the center stone. Again, FI had no clue about any of this. Lo and behold, FI gives me a 3-stone palladium setting with aquamarine accent stones. It is indeed my dream ring and it makes me realize how well my FI gets me. If I had an unlimited budget, I would have the same setting but I’d select a different gemstone for the sides. Aquamarines get cloudy after a while and I’d probably opt for something that stays clearer longer.

I origionally wanted a emerald or radiant cut Diamond with baggette stones on either side.
However this was not inbudget at all, and instead picked a black diamond round with a hallow and pave set diamonds on the band. Im so excited to wear the wedding bands with it I think it completes the look and will end up looking better than anything else that could have been a contender.

Keep ’em coming ladies! I won’t tell your SOs, I promise! My dream ring (which unfortunately was purchased by some other lucky bitch) had a 2ct. VS1 Asscher center stone, with an emerald cut on both sides, and baguettes going down a double milgrain band. The side view had elaborate cutout filigree work, 18kt. White gold setting. 3.25 cttw. I think it was something like $80K. Yeah…no. I ended up with no e-ring, just wearing my promise ring on my left hand as a stand in. Not even close!

I would have the same cut (round) maybe a tad bigger closer to the 1.5 ct range (I think my fingers make the diamond look smaller) and a thinner band 😀

I think I’m really lucky with my current ring. I love it. Even if we won the lottery tomorrow, I wouldn’t change it… but I may buy a big-ass diamond for my right hand haha.
I suppose if we had unlimited funds prior to me getting my ring, I would have gone with something similar, just a larger carat size.

Ii would never say no to a larger center stone but as far as style of ring and quality goes, yes, I am very happy with what I have now…took me 3 years of tweeking it to get it that way though!

My ring is my dream ring! It’s an antique and I about fell over when he proposed with it!

My ring is an improvement from my dream ring. When I started looking at rings in the store the first and really only ring I liked was a princess halo quad ring at Jared’s. It was overpriced for being a quad and the quality of the diamonds but I didn’t know it so we placed it on layaway. Next I got a stand in ring from berricle that was a cushion halo. I fell in love with the shape but wanted the size to be a little more substantial. Now I have my dream ring which was the best of the two rings I first fell in love with. A halo design with side stones and a cushion cut center stone.
