I'm talking about David Tuttera.
He has always annoyed me. I think his wedding's are just (high-end) cookie cutter events. He "personalizes" the reception to each bride's taste, but only within his own idea of what a wedding is. I still like watching the show, though, because he does do some nice things.
Except tonight's episode is terrible and it is only 10 minutes in. He has bashed everything this bride wants: BBQ wedding, beer, and cowboy boots under her dress. I'm still watching just so I can see how bad it gets.
Ugh.
i can't stand him :)
i can't watch that show...for me, it's worse than bridezillas.
Hate him. I think he's a fake fame whore.
I especially hate when he fakes panic "Like omg, how am I ever going to get this done?" *fake weep*...uh with the 20 PERSON CREW behind the camera, DUH.
Hahaha I'm watching that episode w/ the cowboy boots RIGHT NOW and I was just thinking how snotty he is! Did you see the one where he airbrushed over the bride's tattoos for the ceremony because bride's shouldn't have tattoos? Where does he get off?? I would NEVER let him do over my wedding. It would end up looking the same as everyone else's!
@MrsMcGyro: I remember that one! I thought it was so disrespectful of him to tell the bride she shouldn't show her tattoos. Tattoos are part of a person and should not be covered (spoken by someone who has a fairly substantial tattoo and plans to get more..)!!
Actually now that its almost over this was probably my favorite episode ever. I agree that normally he just makes a bride's wedding so cookie-cutter or over the top or just not personal at all, but he really made this girl's dreams come true. Her reception space and ceremony space has that DIY-homespun look without actually being DIY. It is really beautiful! And she is wearing her cowboy boots!! Honestly the first dress she had on was not cute on her and the second is stunning on her!!
What show is this? I think I know who you are talking about though.
@clarebee: I agree that it turned out well in the end. I just think he was so condescending throughout the whole process! I think that is my main issue with him: he gives them a great wedding but puts them down the entire time. I also think this episode was different because he ventured out of the NYC area.
@mannellal: The show is "My Fair Wedding" on WeTV
There is a girl on here who was on the show, I'd love to hear her take on him. I forget her name though.
I personally think a lot of the eye rolls and stuff are put on for the drama of the show maybe, I personally would love to be on it b/c everything is sooooo gorgeous in the end, and he really does seem to form their fantasy into a reality.
LOL I didn't see this post and just posted a poll about this. I loved this episode - it turned out to fit the bride perfectly in the end.
FI and I don't subscribe to cable so I am missing out on this show. I sure hope it is available on Hulu because I am so curious to see who you gals are referring to.
Btw, I love the cowboy boots under the wedding dress idea so just based on that I am not liking him already.
I think he is sweet, helpful and has good intentions. I by no means "hate" him. Those girls asked for his advice, they were not forced into it...and they get a dream wedding out of it. yeah, I am a fan
but I probably will be drinking beer out of the bottle, despite how tasteless he thinks that is
I will drink beer out of a bottle too! Sometimes I think his etiquette is too intense. When the girl said she wanted to jump on her hubby when they were pronounced david was like "you just dont do that, you just DONT do that" and Im thinking its her wedding she can really do whatever she wants!!
I love his show! I think the only thing that bothers me is usually these brides and their families would be able to do better if they had unlimited budgets! But they don't and they apply for his show. So it is not like they don't realize things will get changed. Also, I have never seen an episode where the wedding turned out different than the bride imagined. Rember vegas, mummers, country, swamp, etc. If he really could I am sure he would throw all those themes out the window but he doesn't. He makes those themes reality. Tonights episode was an example of what he does. The tattoo thing didn't bother me either. Lets say she was a complete rocker chick with nose piercings and fire engine lipstick and tats from wrist to neck...then yeah covering the tats would be mean and I don't think he would suggest it or he would at least know he wouldn't get that far with it. Because that is who she is. But tonights bride was not a tattoo loving rocker.
@clarebee: I agree that dress with pickups was so not her and it didn't fit...like 3 sizes too big.
Every wedding he does ends up looking exactly the same; he's like a band where you can't tell the songs apart because they have pretty much the same tune with different words.
I always say I want him to come to my wedding just so I can laugh at the horror on his face. Non-matching bridesmaid dresses in DIFFERENT COLORS?!?! No flowers in the centerpieces?! Oh noes!!!! And then his head explodes. (He likes surprise fireworks, so that should make him happy.)
I don't think they all look the same at all. They are all very fancy looking and amazing looking, but they have their own theme, colors, and the brides are sooooo happy!
I can't watch it because if you go in there and bash all the bride's ideas and say "lets do this instead" It's not really about them anymore. :/
I hate David Tutera just because he changes everything you want to do and if he did it to me I'd be like "Psht No, this is how we're doing it, and you're gonna do it and suck it up, like it, or not get paid"
he's one of the people that make the wedding industry so overpriced. :/
I'm really excited to watch it now. I have to DVR most all the wedding shows so I don't overwhelm FI. With summer programing (read, nothing good on) he's been watching some shows with me.
We're doing an outdoor bbq kind of event with cans of beer and maybe (gasp) boxed wine.
I loved this episode actually. I think he gave the bride exactly what she wanted. I loved the casual, country vibe he created for her. The panned through the crowd during the wedding and one guy was holding a can of beer....priceless.
EDIT: one complaint though. One size does not fit all when it comes to hairstylists. Not every stylist can work with the different textures of African American hair. I think it was last week or the week before he had an AA bride whose hair did not look good at all =(
@madcat: David Tuttera's events are the Owl City of weddings!
I really dont like how he ignores the groom! My husband did 1/2 the work and we made every single decision together!
I do like watching the show, but I decided that I didn't like David Tutera when he actually said this in an episode:
"The one thing all great weddings must have is...lighting."
Oh, really, David Tutera? That is the one thing all great weddings must have? Not love, fun, happiness or even great food?
Sheesh.
I kind of agree in that he is definitely of the belief that it isn't a "real" wedding unless you have all these high-budget items, but at the same time it seems like the women on the show must want his help/money if they go on there in the first place. It's a show the entire premise of which is that you let this guy have freedom to change everything you've planned. Now 4 Weddings or whatever - where these complete strangers go to each other's wedding and critique each other's weddings and one "wins" - that show is just terrible. That being said, I watch it sometimes :)
I don't agree with everything he says/does, but I do want to give him credit that he is often able to make a bride's wedding dream come true, especially when she may not have the means to make it happen herself.
Eh I think he's pretty snotty. I hate his "oh my good lord she can't be serious how tacky!" look. You see it about 9234 times every episode, and generally it is in response to something that is either 1) nontraditional or 2) low budget.
blech.
i usually hate what he does with weddings, it's way over the top and i want to see things that i can afford and would want to do. but i actually loved the redneck wedding episode! i thought the wedding was beautiful, eclectic, and something i'd actually want for my own wedding. i think he really went out of his box for that one.
I can't stand that show. I think one time, he even sent a bride for etiquette lessons or something. I was like, "Really? REALLY!?"
so if ya'll wanted him to stick to their exact theme and all of their low-budget accessories..then what would he be there for and what would the show be? He's not a bad guy.
@lilybay: best response ever. Seriously I cant justify spending money on lighting so I guess mine wont be a "great" wedding!! :-P
Ha! I watched this episode too. Her original wedding is pretty much the exact same thing I'm planning, and I was even jealous of a lot of her ideas! What really burnt my biscuts was her having to "earn the right" to wear her boots to her own damn wedding by exercising! What the eff is up with that?!? This is the wedding machine at its worst. No bride should ever feel pressured to work out, he proposed to you at this weight didn't he? Then he can certainly marry you at it! I was livid when I saw that part and had to change the channel. The end result was nice, but I would much rather have my own wedding than some generalized event planned by a wedding nazi.
I think his stuff DOES look all the same (and it's a little overwhelming even) but I agree with other posters - the brides on there have ASKED for his help, and it seems like a fair share of them don't have the budget to do nice things that they want.
Plus some of the things the brides are planning are downright tacky (yes I said it) - apologies to the bride who was using sponge flowers for her bouquet. I'm all for people doing alternative flowers but those weren't even pretty nor did it seem like something she even liked.
Wow this post took of more than I thought.
To clarify a few things:

@camrie:omg yes, the sponge flowers. Sorry that was too funny.
yeah he might be fake and put on and annoying lol and do only over the top weddings which i don't like but if he'd do my wedding for free he'd be my new best friend lol
i wish hed come revamp my wedding... i would totally let go of all my diy stuff and just let him do everything! haha. i do think he has the bride in his best interest tho:)
I don't have a problem with him doing stuff for these brides who obviously don't have a problem with it, since they went on the show. But I still think he does the same thing every time, with slight variations. And the comment about lighting being the most important aspect of a wedding was just too funny. I know I'm worried that my wedding won't really count because the walls won't be glowing pink.
I actually really like him. I love his ideas. I watch his show so much while my fiance is on the computer, that my FI is becoming more involved with the planning. I guess it motivates him and shows him various beautiful weddings.
@babyboo: Yeah I get what you're saying about his attitude.
On a couple of episodes he's like "I'm taking my bride to this place so she can get a feel for how to be elegant" - like just because these women don't have the budget to throw $250,000 weddings means they don't have any class or taste. I didn't like that.
However I think usually his point is that a lot of brides run into the problem of not having a big enough budget to do what they like - so they get a ton of cheap things that look cheap, instead of focusing on having a few things that are very well done.
