So, I’m being overly planning and trying to figure out things REALLY early. Which I think will be good in the long run. And it’s been fun, most of the planning, so I don’t mind. but for some reason, the task of searching for a DJ seems so daunting and overwhelming, and I have no idea how to even begin looking.
I think unlike the other things (color, dress, photographer, etc), I have no strong interest/ability to form a strong opinion. My fiance is much more of a music person than I am, so I feel like he would care more than me. I mean, there are certain songs I want to have played but beyond that, I don’t know…
So, how do I start this DJ search, especially in a city with I can only imagine has a billion people?

@judithsr: I was told to start by going to the bridal showcases there are always vendors there… and Ive been also asking friends who just got married who they used, etc… Personal references are always the best… just make sure the DJ is into the same kind of music you are… I would not be happy with my wedding DJ playing just hiphop etc… but a good friend from work had a huge club amtosphere for her wedding

I would do a search online for DJs in your area and read reviews and check out their websites.

I got venue list from a couple of country clubs in the area and just started reading reviews and contacting each of them. And it is definetly not too early to book a DJ. I booked our DJ in Decemeber of ’08 for our August ’10 wedding and by the first of the year it seemed like every DJ we liked had been booked.
