(Closed) How do people react when you tell them you talk on a forum/board?

I’ve only told a few people about my Weddingbee problem, lol, and they’ve all been very close to me. My mom doesn’t really care, since she watches a ton of wedding shows, she just equates it to that. My FI thinks I’m weird but loves me anyway, and my best friend is on a few boards herself, so she doesn’t really care. I can see how people don’t join them, though. Some are quite nasty, and definitely not worth it.

Isn’t this what the internet is for?! To connect to those you normally wouldn’t have any connection to?! 😛 I guess people don’t know how to respond.

J laughs at me though.  He thinks I’m addicted.  I find it very useful and fun!

I’m a very social person by nature, but the constraints of distance and time mean that I don’t get to see my in person friends as often as I’d like. I fill the void with online message boards. People used to think I was weird, but I have been using various ones for years and years now, so people who know me well don’t really think about it. People I am first meeting sometimes think it is strange. I don’t really talk about it that often, though, and I’ll often mention things from here as “I once heard about a bride who…” or something like that without clarifying if I am talking to someone I know isn’t into online stuff like this.

I have one board that I first started on 6 years ago and have something like 10,000 posts. It would be quite higher but I have somewhat abandoned it since finding weddingbee. I became facebook friends with people from there.

on another forum for another interest i have an online family and we have been connecting for about 4yrs now – people have flown all over the world to visit the other, i know and trust some of these people more than my own family

i get the “look” too. also, the question, “aren’t you already married?” it’s getting to be a problem because i find myself on these boards way too often during the workday.

I’ve told a few people, and the only reason they look at me funny is cuz I’ve been married for over a year and am still on a wedding board Surprised

The only one who knows about it is my husband, and he sort of rolls his eyes that I’m still on here, but doesn’t say anything (because I keep my mouth shut about some of the games he plays online).

@Mrs Sarah McK: I think that’s why J doesn’t say much to me.  He’s always playing his game online.

Most people just laugh. My SO on the other hand is an extremely active member of another forum and we discuss the others on the forum like they are people we personally know. We refer to people by their “names” and talk about what they did or said that day.

We often talk also about the similarities like if SO has trolls on his board or if they have hot button issues that most don’t bring up.

@DesireeAnne: I think D’s grateful because I’d probably bug him more about the video games if I didn’t have my own little internet addiction (because I’m totally addicted to WB–case in point, I’ve been married 3 months and have no intention of leaving anytime soon. I like it here.)

I talk about it all the time and I have never gotten a strange reaction.  FH will sometimes reads WB along with me.

@Mrs Sarah McK: I know it well.  I used to constantly say something to him (though I understand he deserves his down time) but now he’s the one looking at me asking me what I could possibly be talking about.  Heh.  I doubt I’ll be going anywhere after we are married, but that’s still awhile away.  He actually checked out the site a few minutes ago to see what it’s like.  He laughed every time he saw my name.
