Microwave some water for a minute or two before you try to clean it, it loosens the stuck-on gunk.
Put a damp cloth in the microwave and cook it for about 5-10 seconds. The baked on stuff will come right off. That and magic erasers!!
I cut a piece of loemin, stick it in a bowl of water, and microwave it. The "lemon steam" that is created cleans it PERFECTLY- just wipe it afterward.
Microwave lemon slices in water for 2 minutes to get good results. Nice smell and very eco-safe! Works like a charm.
I second the bowl of lemon and water. Nice and steamy and smells good. Loosens everything up, and you can just wipe away.
This is just what I needed to see today! Not only did it give me some tricks but it's giving me motivation to just do it!
bowl of lemon slices in water and zap for a min or two. after that everything wipes off easy!
@CorgiTales: That is what I use, haha. But my mom also conditioned me to cover my food when I microwave it and if there are any "explosions" I clean them up immediately. It grosses me out to see a dirty microwave :/
These microwave covers work wonders for preventing a dirty microwave:
We also cover everything that we microwave ... so it is pretty darn clean. Every once in a while I will microwave a sliced lemon in it to freshen it up a bit ... but if you don't have food exploding on it it won't need much work!
I can't handle dirty microwaves! Our old roommates left them dirty all the freaking time. I mean, I basically spent my entire year walking behind her cleaning the kitchen because she'd leave things crusted on for weeks otherwise. The lemon trick works wonders for things that have been left or a quick freshening up, but for day to day I just use Seventh Gen and paper towels.
Put a microwave safe bowl (glass) with water and vinegar and turn it on for 2-3 minutes. Wipe clean.
Thanks ladies! I did the lemon in a cup of water trick and worked great. Our microwave is clean. Yea!
I also do what sararocks says and put a teeny bit of diswasher soap onto my wet sponge and microwave it along w/the lemon and cup of water...that makes it quick.
Just don't over microwave the sponge. about 20 sec or its' far too hot.
