I try to unplug from things (less internet), try to do only one thing at a time and just enjoy it (watching TV instead of watching TV, on the internet, and doing other things), exercise, and being outside.

Yoga!

Also bubble baths with a good book or horseback riding.

@lilyfaith: horseback riding is my stress release too. Unfortunately I am sick with bronchitis so I had to cancel my lesson. Maybe I’ll try and do some yoga later to de stress a bit.

@KatNYC2011: Aw, that’s too bad. I know how it throws off your whole week! I just got a nasty cold, too, but Wednesdays are my barn days, so it’s just my weekend that’s thrown off.

Do you live in NYC and drive out to ride? That’s what I have to do since I live in Chicago and it’s about 45 miles to my barn. It’s a pain, and I really wish I could get out there more often, but with traffic it’s about 1 1/2 hours each way.

@lilyfaith: Yeah I live in NYC and have to drive out about 45 min to the barn. Saturday are my usual riding days and I spent all night coughing last night so it really wasn’t in the cards to go today.

I occasionally go on thursday nights, but then the drive bumps up from 45 min to 1 1/2hrs due to city traffic.

Once of these days I’ll have my own horse close by and ride every day.

When I need to de-stress, I love reading.  I like drinking a cup of tea and curling up on the couch or in bed and reading.  I also enjoy catching up on my TV shows or exercising.  Basically, I need to cut down from doing a bunch of things at once and multitasking, to just focus on one activity and let my brian relax from everything else.  I find going to bed early also helps me, so I won’t get run down and sick.

Find something you enjoy and do that instead of whatever behavior stresses you out. Write down your thoughts in a journal. Drink herbal tea (Celestial Seasonings Tension Tamer is good, as is Chamomile, both of which are natural relaxants). Read or relax in a bubble bath, go shopping, watch a favorite movie or tv show, listen to favorite music. The sky is the limit really.

Going to the gym always helps, but there are times that I don’t feel like a work out.  I like to take bubble baths and ‘beautify’ myself.. paint my nails etc.. It helps me. I also feel that too much internet increases my stress so I try to lay off the BEE =)
