Do you mean personal monograms or couples’ monograms? Because as for my PERSONAL monogram/having items monogrammed, I’m a huge fan. I think that is a southern thing. I think couples’ monograms are nice, but we probably won’t have one because we aren’t sharing a last name.

@minipenguin:  Depends where. I like it on paper, example business letterhead, business cards, invitations. Its common to see monograms in wedding invitations, cake, favors, or cake topper.

But I’m not a big fan of monograms at home 🙁 example on bathroom towels, clothing, luggage, etc.

@minipenguin:  ha…we all mispell from time to time (is mispell a word?)  😉

I don’t like them at all personally – I don’t need to see my initials on everything I own, as I was probably the one who bought it!

Also, they seem very preppy and I dislike most preppy-style stuff.  That’s just me though.

@DaisyBelle:  it’s a word, but you misspelled it! LOL

OP, I love monograms, but I’m southerner that grew up in the 80’s. that should be all the explanation needed!

@DaisyBelle:  It is.  However, it is spelled “misspell.” 🙂

@minipenguin:  I like them. I had my maiden-name monogram embossed on the informals that I used as thank-you notes for shower gifts.  Also, my DH and I had our married monogram on our wedding cake and in our wedding program.

I agree with PP. I think monograms are definitely a southern thing. That being said, I absolutely love them and will be incorporating our monogram into various aspects of our wedding

Like you all said, monograms are huge in the South! There are times where I really love monograms, like this situation…

Wearing your new monogram to the reception!

… but mostly I think they are a bit preppy for my style. I also don’t like them plastered everywhere at the wedding, but an initial here or there isn’t so bad. 🙂

I have a very intricate, handsmithed monogram (my own initials) pendant from the 1800s and I’m a big fan of it 🙂

I think monograms can be beautiful but there is a certain non-ornate, flowing script style monogram that I see freaking everywhere, and am weary of.

My FI will be taking my last name and if we do a couple’s monogram on anything it will only be if we find an artisan doing it in the old style.

It depends what they’re on.  A personal monogram on a leather suitcase or wallet – yes, definitely.  A couple’s monogram on wedding stationery (inivitations, programs, etc.) – sure, why not?  A personal monogram on a bathrobe/wine glass/tote bag – no, not a huge fan.  A couple’s monogram on anything other than wedding stationery – no, not a fan at all.  But to each their own.

@minipenguin:  I honestly never knew what makes a monogram a monogram. The first time I saw something like that on a kid’s backpack I thought “lol their mom messed up their initials.”

Since I knew the kid, I read it as “First LAST middle.. wait what??”

Why are they in that order?
