Of course I am fine with hubby and close friends and family doing it. However, I saw someone that I don’t talk to much AT ALL, in the store, the other day. She rubbed my belly and was like “awwwwwwwwwwww it’s so little”. uhmmm…ok thanks? I don’t really think that I am going to like randoms rubbing on my belly. I wanted to say “Excuse me, but my baby doesn’t really like to be touched!!”
Does it bother you to have people rub your belly?

I’m not pregnant OR TTC, but I’ve seen people on the metro trains do this to pregnant women (complete strangers), and I want to say something to the tummy rubbers! Heaven help whoever tries to do that to me… I am not okay with anyone touching my stomach without permission, baby or no baby!

@abbie017: I mean geesh, do we lose our rights to private space just because we are pregnant? The baby is already enough company lol

I think it’s completely unnecessary and very annoying. I especially love when AS THEY ARE RUBBING my belly they’re like “I hope this doesn’t bother you”. I just smile and say: ‘well it did at first but I am used to all of it by now”. I mean…I am now unfortunately.

Never been pregnant, but I cannot imagine that I will take this well if I have kids someday. It creeps me out! (besides the husband/ very close friends and family)

I’m only 5 weeks so no one wants to touch my belly, but when the time comes I will be one of those who backs away from incoming hand rubbers and say no thank you. I don’t event like being hugged by anyone but Darling Husband, like hell I’m going to let people start touching my belly.

This hasn’t happened too many times in my 3 pregnancies, but it happened this weekend (DH’s stepmom just couldn’t keep her hands to herself). I drives me nuts. It really gets the point across how rude it is when you rub their tummy back. Ok I didn’t do this but I really wanted to.

Is it bad that I opened this thread thinking about this would be about stomach..condoms.. wth is wrong with my mind!! 🙂

I’m going to be that person who touches the stomach of the person who tries to touch mine. Or slaps the hand touching me. Hands off unless you are given permission.

I’m 17w and freaed out at the thought of strangers touching me. In fact, I don’t really need anyone rubbing my belly. Lol

32 weeks and have yet to have a random person touch my stomach! Darling Husband, my mom, my best friend (baby’s godmother), and maybe my grandmother, are the only ones who have attempted to touch my stomach or talk to the baby.

Still early on, so I haven’t had it (16 weeks, just starting to ‘show’), but I do know I won’t take it well. Just Darling Husband putting his hand on my stomach makes me jump at times, so anyone else is going to make me freak. We are going to visit his family this weekend.. I’m really hoping they don’t just do it as I find even family doing it without asking extremely offensive and they will likely find that out real quick if they do try.

I would snap!!! If it was a family member, or close friend I probley wouldnt mind. But a stranger! Hell no! While in line at a check out, I saw someone just reach out and touch a pregnant womans stomach (she was probley 8 months) and the woman lost it! She goes “WHO THE HECK ARE YOU!! DO NOT TOUCH ME!!!”. The woman who did was super embarrassed and moved, but everyone around the pregnant woman told her good for you, and someone even said she should press charges..lol. She apologised to everyone, but everyone told her she was in the right.

I plan to use the Demetri Martin defense… and yell “I HAVE DIARRHEA!” if someone approaches me.
MrDane sometimes hugs my tummy, but I have to remind him that I’m only 9 weeks, and that’s not a baby he’s hugging, it’s all the carbs I’ve been eating! My sensitive tummy has only been happy with pasta & potatoes lately!
