Please don’t laugh at me…but I really don’t know where to start. My Fiance is not religious in any sense of the word, and I am a non-practicing Catholic. Fiance and I agreed that we would like a neutral ceremony that is not religion-specific.
That being said, what types of officiants are out there that perform neutral ceremonies? What types of ceremonies are not religion-specific? And how do you find an officiant? We decided we may want to bump up our wedding timeline (we originally said a 2 year engagement, but now we are re-thinking that), and I have no idea how to begin the search for the most important part of a wedding – the ceremony and who will perform it!

When we were looking, we just typed in “Charleston, SC wedding officiants” and it came up with a whole list and some websites. Also, on the reviews on here you can look in your area at officiants and get a general list as well as reviews at the same time.

We had someone sign up for free online and had them perform it. You might check into the laws in you area but it is easy to sign up online and in our area there is no restrictions or registrations with the state. Literally, cost us nothing to have a friend sign up.

@tksjewelry: I also agree with this idea. We wanted to have a friend perform the ceremony but we didn’t have anyone who was comfortable enough with public speaking.

I’m still pretty new to weddingbee.com… so how do I look up my area for officiants?

Also check your local wedding magazine, like we have Chicago Style Wedding which is free wedding that lists vendors in the area, check wedding banquet halls they usually have them out by the free newspapers. There is a whole section of officiants in there.
We are in the same boat as far as being non-religious. I just asked some of my more religious friends for suggestions and voila we found 2 priests willing to do an outdoor ceremony!
