I haven't dealt with this yet since we've more than 6 months to go, still, but my one of my besties was married last summer and received the majority of her gifts in the mail--the store shipped right to her. When guests bought in store, I believe they shipped for free; when they bought online, the shipping cost was whatever the standard online shipping cost was. Most of her shipped gifts came from Crate & Barrel & Bed Bath and Beyond, and everything arrived safe and sound.
ETA--yes, I'm pretty certain this is standard practice here.
We received a TON of shower gifts and a few wedding gifts via mail. It was so much fun opening them together and seeing who they were from.
i never had to go pick them up - didnt even know that was an option haha! but i did get tons in the mail, shipped to my moms house - it was a great surprised the few weeks leading up to the wedding, she would call "another RSVP, another gift!" and i would drive right over there after work haha.
I'll have to check in store I guess, I got my info from online. It doesn't help the guests who don't have a store near them though.
Thanks!

For the gifts that people don't give to you directly, are the majority mailed to you or do you pick them up?
Here, most of the traditional registries offer in store pickup. It's a free service, no one has to pay for shipping. You pick a home store and all your gifts can be picked up there.
I registered at Bed Bath and Beyond, which is fairly new here (along with other stores since many of the guests don't live by one). They do not offer this service. Many of you mention getting gifts in the mail, is this pretty standard in the US? I haven't heard of anyone getting a gift in the mail here before (unless it's a card with cash or a GC).
