This info is also helpful to those having a hot cocoa bar at their reception to have an idea as to what to anticipate serving.

Do you like it plain or with certain flavors added? Do you like it with garnishes of any kind (marshmallows, cinnamon, whipped cream, candy canes, something else, all of the above)?

Mmmm hot chocolate! I hope to have a hot chocolate bar and I'm excited to hear the answers! Personally my favorite add-ins are mini marshmallows and candy canes. :)

I like mine with either marshmallow fluff/cream or whipped cream.  My husband likes his with candy canes. ;)

Those sound all really good! Yum. If my wedding weren't in July, I would steal your idea. Sorry I just wanted to reply because I love hot chocolate. I honestly can't think of any more toppings. You covered the basics though, i think.

Oh man... I like whipped cream in it!  I also like peppermint flavoring (like the syrups they use at Starbucks) or occasionally, irish cream.

I really like the Land O' Lakes flavored hot chocolates.  The raspberry hot chocolate is my ultimate fav!!  Just had a mug last night actually...  ;)

@MissShork, people drink hot cocoa all year, even though it's more common in the colder months. Even if your wedding is in summer, you can still do it but perhaps serve frozen hot cocoa or iced, with any flavor variations. Espresso bars/shops serve hot and iced drinks year round so it's not taboo or weird if that's what you want to serve.

@piglet, Bailey's is a brand of Irish Cream.

My personal favourites are mini marshmallows. Although I've been known to dunk a candy cane in mine if it's the season.

    I am very boring.

I love my hot chocolate plain, but I also make it with milk, instead of water :-)

Whipped cream. And chocolate shavings.  And the heavier the milk the better, if unhealthy. The chef at my college made this amazing hot chocolate with whole cream.  Yum!

@JennHasFeet, you don't dip a candy cane like you would a cookie. You drop it in the cocoa and the heat melts the candy cane so that you have a peppermint flavor.

@Ms Mini:  Yeah!  Another hazel-nut.  Other fave is a mix I make for my chocolate business-cinnamon, nutmeg & clove.  Delish with some whipped cream dusted with more cinnamon.

Another good liquor in hot chocolate is FIREBALL!

It gives it a nice, cinnamony flavour. Yum. Now I want some.

I saw a recipe on a website for hot chocolate on a stick? It's like a stick with melted whatever on it, and when you stir it into hot milk it turns into hot chocolate. Might be a good idea to someone.

@ceamoste, I think you're describing a chocolate covered spoon. Those are used to flavor coffee as well.

I like mine with Peppermint Schnapps and a candy cane.  Yum!  I think it'd be cool to hook up the hot cocoa bar with a bartender so they can add cordials if requested.

Love the hot chocolate bar idea! I would go for mini marshmallows or whipped cream. ooh you could put little sprinkles that match your wedding colours out on the table too! Around Christmas for a festive treat I sometimes add a little Fire Ball liquor to mine (it's a cinnamon liquor). YUM!

My favorite is to melt a York Peppermint Patty in it.  It melts better than a candy cane, and gives it just a bit extra chocolate.

If regular hot chocolate then topped with whipped cream and mini chocolate chips (or the baking york patties but I don't know if you can find those outside of central PA)

My friend's aunt makes flavored hot chocolate mixes and my favorite is an "orange creamsicle" mix that was just amazing without adding anything. I believe powdered creamer was part of the mix and then who knows what else but it would be worth investigating (I'm rarely around cold enough to devote the energy to it so at most I'm a tea drinker)
