I like it thinly sliced as deli meat, but I can just never get into Thanksgiving turkey for some reason.
Brined, covered in butter, and roasted :)
I've never had fried turkey before, but I hear it's amazing!
@jo.lee: I rarely get it as deli meat.
@Blueshoes2: It is really good. FH doesn't like turkey but he loves fried turkey. He said that roasted turkey is dry, but fried turkey is more juicy.
We did fried last year and it was really really good. I think it is my new favorite, but I still like it roasted too.
No one does fried turkey out here because there simply isn't the space for it (I live in the land of large houses on tiny properties). If/when I visit my family in the midwest we get fried turkey! We roast our turkey for our immediate family's Thanksgiving but my extended family usually cooks it on the BBQ. For both of my guy's Thanksgivings we eat a roasted turkey, also.
PS. Can you tell I have a million Thanksgivings to go to every year??
@Neva: It's my new fave too! My daddy just started doing it a couple of years ago.
@nut9108: Yes, you seem very busy. lol BBQ turkey is very good.
@cbee: Turkey sandwiches are so good. Sometimes my mama makes a turkey gumbo after Thanksgiving.
In any way that doesn't involve a dumb joke about my heritage. (As in "You're from Turkey? You must eat a lot of turkey...Hahaha" and 500 other stupid variations of the same thing. )
I always like sides better than the turkey itself; we usually have a fried one and a roasted one and they are about the same to me. FI SWEARS fried turkey is better tho.
I have never had fried turkey but have heard nothing but good things about it. I love my turkey brined and roasted. Fi's mother makes the best roasted turkey that is super juicy. She only makes a breast so I think that must be why.
@trugem: Even more annoying is the fact that everyone who makes it thinks it's SO original and funny. I've even had it used on me as a pick-up line before (where is the eye-roll icon when you need one?)
For the record, 1. The country is even't called Turkey in our language 2. Not my fault the English decided to call it that 3. Actually we don't eat turkey at all back home 4. Aside all this, I like my turkey bestas a deli meat, in a sandwich with mustard and mayo.
Fried turkey is AMAZING! I've only had it once but I absolutely loved it. Then people started setting their houses on fire so my FIL's decided to put the kibosh on that. Every year since we've had it roasted and its nowhere near as good.
The only way I've ever actually liked turkey was thinly sliced and doused in cranberry sauce (the real stuff, not that weird gooey canned version) on a sandwich.
@daydreamwanderer: Homemade cranberry sauce is so good.
@meliss: For the record, 1. The country is even't called Turkey in our language
I didn't know that. I wonder why they call it Turkey?
@Aubergold: I'm w/ you in liking the sides more than the turkey. Or I always go for the ham. Turkey does nothing for me.
I actually hate turkey. I haven't eaten meat in general for years, but am now since I'm pregnant (I know you don't have to eat it during pregnancy, but I'm kinda craving it in small doses) so I'll just have a small piece, but personally I think it's too "gamey" tasting.
DH however eats some form of smoked turkey deli meat everyday. He prefers turkey deli meat over chicken, but likes chicken over turkey normally...go figure! lol
@trugem: Haha, I don't know. We call it Turkiye meaning land of the Turks. French call it Turquie, Spanish call it Turquia, English call it Turkey. I've read that a bird similar to turkey was first introduced to Europe by Turkish merchants in the 16th century, thus the bird was named after the land. Then a confusion caused the New World species to be thought the same thing and given the same name. (Unrelated trivia: Word "turquoise" was coined in similar fashion as the gem was introduced to Europe by Turkish merchants). It could also be that the Turks annoyed the Brits enough during World War I and after that upon retreat the Brits decided to call the country after a stupid bird so people like me can suffer mockery for centuries :)
MMM.... fried turkey!! It's so, so yummy. It is so much jucier and flavorful. I can't stand when any meat is too dry, but especially turkey.
Hurry up Thursday!! :)
I like roasted turkey but I also really like turkey deli meat on a sandwich! :)
Fried turkey is so delicious and juicy! But you have to get the oil temp just right. I also love leftover turkey and rice soup, or split pea and turkey soup. Or leftover turkey salad (made with dijon mustard & plain yogurt) on a sandwich. YUM!
I like my turkey roasted usually. I am all about the white meat!
Has anyone has a turducken? We made one a year or two ago, and it is a HUGE amount of meat, but pretty tasty! It is a chicken stuffed in a duck that is stuffed in a turkey. You have to debone all the birds before, and then you put stuffing between each layer. It is pretty much a massive ball of meat. But it tasted pretty good (as horrifying as it sounds!).
I like them fried, but i REALLY like them brined, seasoned, and roasted in a crazy way. I used a bobby flay spanish seasoning for a turkey breast a month ago and it was ridiculously good. Very unusual but so so good.
My dad decided to deep fry our turkey one year when we were all out at the cabin. It was still semi-frozen and ended up catching a whole bunch of trees and the awning on fire....needless to say we only do an oven roasted version now lol.
I like turkey all different ways!
I love then deep fried, roasted and smoked!
My husband and I hope to try smoking a turkey for the first time soon.
But for thanksgiving, always roasted!
Have you tried injecting your turkey with Chiavettas before frying? It's sooooo good.
And please everyone, be careful when deep frying your turkey this thanksgiving day! Leave PLENTY of room for oil overflow and AWAY from your home!!!

We ALWAYS brine our turkey too!! Heard about it from Alton Brown although we use a simple brine rather than his version. We brined + his dad's turkley roasting recipe = VERY YUMMY!
Never been a big turkey fan, it is my least favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner.
I like my turkey well done smoked if I had to choose..that's if I eat turkey..I usually leave that one for last or skip it altogether..turkey sandwiches the next day I enjoy better. But I usually just have cran sauce, mashed pots..and green beans..oh and stuffin..but not so much on the turkey.
I wish we could have chosen more than one option in this poll!
But I voted for fried since I Just tried it on Saturday and it was really moist and delicious!
@Gerbera, I LOVE Alton Brown! He's so sciency/nerdy about food! And his recipes are all great! i have yet to have a bad experience.
Cooked. That is my only requirement. I haven't tried it fried and I really don't need that extra grease and fat but turkey is my favorite meat and as long as it is cooked, I will eat it.

Thanksgiving is Thurs. and my daddy is frying our turkey. How do you like yours?
I love fried turkey the most, but smoked turkey is good too.
