How do you manage to temp at the same time everyday?

I have an alarm set on my phone for 530. Earlier than I normally get up or even when I wake up. I usually wake around 6 or so and the wake-up alarm is for 630. I tried temping at 6 originally, but found that my temps were really erratic. I would suggest setting it at 430 to temp. I read that you really only need 3 solid hours of sleep to accurately temp (correct me if I’m wrong). Also, are you a mouth-breather when you sleep? Apparently that can affect your temping as well. Good luck! Temping really has helped me not overthink TTC and calmed me when I get worried about when AF is going to show up, or not.

Ugh, I’m having trouble even remembering to temp at all each morning!  I’m hesitant to set an early alarm because my husband will be pretty annoyed if I wake him up (the beeping of the thermometer is sometimes enough to wake him…), but I temped for like a month fairly successfully, but then just can’t seem to keep it up!

I started because I wanted to stop taking birth control, which I have, and to get a better idea of what is going on with my body, but it’s not going to be very reliable at this rate!

@MrsBananas:  I wake up at the same time every morning to get ready for work. Saturdays and Sundays I wake up take my temp and then go back to bed.

There have been a couple of times that I have woken up earlier, so I have used a temperature adjuster and it works great for me.

I have compared the results a couple of times and they always match. For example, one time I woke up at 3am and wrote down the temperature and later I woke up at my usual time and recorded the temperature. The adjusted temperature (for the 3am time) using the calculator was the same than what my usual time temperature would have been.

Ah that’s tough. I temp at 5 because that’s the earliest I pretty much ever wake up. It sucks when I can sleep in though and wake up to temp and can’t fall back asleep. Or am up with the dog through the night and don’t get the full amount of sleep.

I’d try 4:30 for a little bit and see how it works for you. Sorry you’re struggling.

It’s not easy at all. Try as much as possible to set a time where your body USUALLY wakes you up. I am not working at the moment. But my DH gets up at 5:30 AM. So I temp around 5:30 AM. (Maybe 15-20 mins later sometimes). Then I go back to sleep for a cpl hrs. I would LOVE to wake up and temp normally around 7:00ish but since DH’s alarm wakes me up at 5:30, that is my only option. This is not doing my beauty sleep any favours though. Frown Broken sleep is NOT fun.

Yea the empty circles just mean that the time of morning is inconsistent from your standard, or from day to day, so the temperature isn’t necessarily apples to apples and a clean pattern. It’s not that you / FF won’t definitively be able to catch the pattern if it’s there, just that it’s more difficult. I bet you’ll get into the habit…it just sucks in the beginning so hang in there.

I am struggling with this too… also been temping for about 3 weeks.  My “standard” time is 6am… I get up at either 5:30 or 6:30 (earlier if I’m working out).  But lately I’ve been waking up earlier because I have to pee, sometimes at 4 or 5.  So I’m temping then…. I haven’t tried the temp correcter yet, though.

I am really reluctant to set an alarm for 4:30… DH and I are both pretty light sleepers, so he already hears my alarm and then the damn thermometer beeping (I get up earlier as it is).  If it’s THAT early I feel like he would end up being super cranky about it.  Undecided  I’m hoping that all of this just gets easier with more time!

What worked for us was getting DH involved. He is much more consistent than I am about waking up at the same time every day, and he generally wakes up before I do, so we would temp when he wakes up, and he took care of recording it (we use the paper charts from TCOYF). I know that won’t necessarily work for everybody, but it was really great for getting him involved with the process – he is now able to read the charts and spot patterns just as well as I can, and the whole thing is very collaborative, which is great. I love that it is “our thing,” and not just “my thing.”

You should get a full dot if you set your default time to when you take it.  So if you were NEVER getting full dots that may have been why (default time not set)?

Grrrr, I really want to avoid a 4:30 am alarm…. I’d love to hear anyone else’s suggestions on dealing with this!

@SaltedCaramel:  I honestly don’t temp at the same time every day. I tried very, very hard to get the same time (or within a 15 min. window) in the beginning, and it didn’t work well for me. I am constantly waking up early for no reason – some days 4:30 am, some days 6:30am. It just is something about my sleep patterns that I tend to wake up randomly. When I was trying to temp at the same time every day, I would try really hard to go back to sleep IMMEDIATELY because I didn’t want to mess up my temp at the regular time, which of course just made me lie there awake. Then it turned into a pattern of me waking up earlier and earlier and more and more.

So here’s what I do – if I wake up any time after 4am, I take my temp then. Then I try to go back to sleep. If I can get in at least 2 more hours of good sleep, I’ll temp again when I wake up, and use that temp. If I can’t get back to sleep, oh well. I just use the temp from when I originally woke up.

Strict charters would probably say this is a bad idea, but it’s what works for me. I typically have little or no trouble discerning my O date. I think for some people, this wouldn’t work out as well, but I found after charting for awhile that it works well for me.
